The Automobil Club Muenchen, ACM, is holding its 4th Classic car meeting, Old-Timer Treff auf Deutsch, on Sunday at Theresienwiese, next to the Frühlingsfest. Apparently you can just turn up in your old car and join in the fun if you wish, no need to register. Of course you don't need to have a car to go along and have a look at some lovely old motors, both road and racing cars and bikes. There's a bit of a procession at 11am and then I believe you can just wander round and look at the vehicles. After that you can pop into the Frühlingsfest and wash the road dust and taste of overheating engines out of your throat with a nice cold Maß.

Oooh, I will put that in the calendar for Sunday. My boyfriend will love it...

I saw a lot of oldtimers (too many to mention) on Sunday on all the backroads of Starnberg (well, between Starnberg See and Ammersee) while riding my bike. It was a great day for them.
Timmeh
There were gazillions of them on Leopoldstr too

Did you see two blokes in an Austin Healey that were being followed by two suspicious looking blondes in a Landrover? tongue.gif

If you did, the Healey contained my friend (the owner) and me (the map reader). The Landrover contained his wife, his two kids, my wife and my dog.

There were a few "old timers" around Starnberg and the backroads on Sunday, it was a great day as there was no chance of rain (most of the "old timers" will not take their cars out in the rain!!)

Pardon my ignorance, but what is an oldtimer?, is it a particular type of classic car, or one of those Germglish words like doubledecker for biplane.
Allershausen
It's just their name for a classic car, i.e. not new, not used, but treasured. It's Denglish

Yep, but the Germans tend to call "classic" cars "old-timers". I must confess that when my friend was talking about buying an "old-timer" I had no idea what he meant and he, in turn, had no idea that we called them "classics".

Even his insurance classifies his Healey as an "old-timer" blink.gif

Oldtimers are classified by insurance companies as cars older than 30 years. If they are not too blinged out, they qualify for an H registration and lower rates on taxes and insurance. Youngtimers are cars that are generally older than 20 years (but not so old as to be oldtimers).

The Leopoldstr thing last Sunday was to protest against the new smog regulations that would see many of those same cars banned from the city.

Timmeh, Alf will make an appearance on Sunday. smile.gif

Photos from the car show can be seen here. I put up a lot of photos, but it might be interesting for some.

It was a great event (I'll post pics tonight). I ended up hanging out with the Mustang Club of Germany's Munich chapter members - VERY fun people.
