Good evening all,

I would like say that "my great- grandfather came from Baveria 100 years ago". Also, how would you say someone was born in 1900. Would one in german use the same tense of "was born" for both those who are still living and those now deceased?

Thanks

if the person is still alive, you say "er ist in xxxx geboren". If he's dead " er wurde in xxxx geboren".

the first is a little more complicated. i assume you mean he emmigrated from bavaria 100 years ago, so: Mein Urgrossvater ist vor hundert Jahren aus Bayern ausgewandert.
