I was hoping to put a little wager on the Grand National this year but I haven't got a clue where a Bookmakers is! I'm sure I've seen one before but can't think where. Anyone got any ideas? Preferably round the Alster somewhere!

i would guess in any one of those Wettbüros.. they're all over, there's one next to the Fitcom across from the Bahnhof.

Ok- I found one but it would have been cheaper if I hadn't!! Quick uninformed flutter was not all its cracked up to be! Never mind, try again next year!

The guy there was a great help as I didn't have a clue how to fill out the German betting slip. He really took his time and even tried in English before we had to break that attempt up. Its similar to a UK bookies only they serve alcohol there too!! Either you leave broke or drunk unless you're really succesful and manage both!!

There's also a little café-cum-betting shop on the Osterstrasse (near the big crossroads with Doormannsweg), and I'm sure I've passed a bookies on the Hoheluftchaussee, too
