Would be interested in meeting for a Stammtisch. I'll be checking the board for information on the next one. Thanks.
mgmike
Woow!!! That's cool.

The English-German-Stammtisch-Posting is back on the top. I know everything takes its time.

So in the next days i will post the information for our first meetup in the year 2007.

I wish you all marry X-Mas and a good start into 2007.

Hammonia
Would be interesting to get to know something about your first meeting.
Expat Mat
Yep, I'm interested. I'm sure it would help me. Need lots of practice.
Hammonia
Would be interesting to know if it really worked the first time at the Stammtisch - or if it was more like what always happens to the two of us: we have the intention to speak Germany, and after abt. 2 minutes slide back into English... sad.gif
*note to self* speak more German with Mat
*bang head on wall*
SunshineCoaster
Hi Michael...

I know you have heard this before...l wink.gif but I would also like some feedback about your first meeting and information on any other meeting that are likely to happen in the new year... It would be so helpful to speak more German... and of course any excuse to see other english speaking people... (I know this sounds pathetic blink.gif I need to get out more) Merry New Year and Happy Christmas to All.

AndreHH
Hi there...
where can i find an ecxperience picture of the first meetup? Who have a link?
thx
mgmike
@hammonia

I have some experience with English-German Tandempartnership (one native english speaker meets one german native speaker) and this works well ... sometimes a little bit too good biggrin.gif

Now let's found this English-German-Stammtisch together ... just to see if it will work ... i think this is a very good idea.

Hi everybody!

For our first meetup in 2007 i suggest to go to the Cafe September. It has enough space and it is very central.

You can find it in Feldstr.60/ Ecke Karolinenstraße near the U-Bahn station Feldstrasse. For more information about the cafe
go to http://www.cafe-september.de/

I like to meet on the second sunday next year, 14. Jan 2007, at 11 o'clock a.m. and have brunch together.
I hope you all like this idea and have time on this sunday. smile.gif

First meetup 2007: Sunday Brunch 14. Jan 2007
Time: 11 o'clock a.m.
Location: Cafe September Feldstrasse 60 Karolinenstraße near the U-Bahn station Feldstrasse

For this first meet up in the new year I suggest to speak all the time in german and then the next time in english and
afterwards keep this cycle. For people who are not used to speak continously in the foreign language it is ok to switch
anytime to their own language.

So ... please just post here if you like to come so that I can book seats accordingly.

For further native german speakers i will invite some friends of mine ... so there will be enough persons to speak german with.

Cafe September (Not nice cafe with horrible breakfast buffet) My suggestion, speak German and drink coffee!! (that was not too good either dry.gif ) But do not eat there... it is a bit like an expensive imbiss...
Good luck on the learning German though biggrin.gif
mgmike
@aprilfool
I was already several times in Cafe September and everything was fine. But I have to admit I do not know the breakfast buffet. So if you are an expert for brunch and breakfast buffet which cafe would you recommend to meet up? It should be as centrally located as the Cafe September.

@all
Does anybody know a good cafe with a good brunch? Any suggestions are welcome.

And from my point of view the Cafe September is a nice and good cafe. If there is no better idea I still like to meet there. smile.gif
Hammonia
Will be there, love the idea of a German/English Stammtisch smile.gif

About the venue: if the breakfast is really that bad at September, maybe we should go some place anybody has actually tested for the breakfast?

My suggestion would be the Alex at Jungfernstieg, have been there with Mat's sister and brother-in-law, we all loved it. They have a huge range of warm and cold brunch buffet, as far as I know til 2 p.m.
It's central and easy to find.
Quite crowded though, so reservation is essential, i guess.

That an idea?
mgmike
That's great and the idea to meet at Cafe Alex it's great too.

Now I made the decision and the first meetup in this year will be at Cafe September. smile.gif

I think it is a nice cafe and the atomsphere is very good to meet for an English-German-Stammtisch.
For the next meetup as you like we can go to Cafe Alex or any other nice cafe in Hamburg.

To find the Stammtisch in the cafe just ask the waitress or waiter for the English-German-Stammtisch TT.

Again all the important information when and where the meetup will be:

Hello Michael,

I'm new to this web page smile.gif That all sounds like a great idea! I'm not in Hamburg yet, but me and a friend are planning to come and live there for a few months in the next couple of weeks - we love that city! I'm jealous that I cannot join in already! We have just got back from visiting friends in Hamburg and have suddenly made a crazy decision to go there to live and work. After just finishing University, we want to do something fun and exciting...my plan for this year was to learn German properly and living there is the perfect opportunity! However, we are both from England and our German speaking skills are very limited... therefore your English-German Stammisch sounds perfect. If you are still having these meet ups in a few weeks, i'd love to come along, or know how they are going. Also, this isn't really relevant to your posts, but do you have any advice that you could possibly give me on finding jobs (bar work etc) in Hamburg?! You sound like a very wise Hamburger, hehe!! I look forward to hearing from you,

Thank you!

Helen

There will be many meetups in the next months. Take an appropriate one! the job will be more difficult. Every student here are looking for work in a bar or restaurant...
mgmike
Hi Helen,

when you are both back to Germany I am sure the English-German-Stammtisch will still exist. Otherwise we could then start the Stammtisch together again. smile.gif

cu soon

That sounds like a very good plan to me smile.gif Thanks for the job advice - my big problem's gonna be my limted knowledge of German!! Think my best bet might be trying some irish/english bars to start out!? Oh well, i'm sure it'll be OK. Good luck with your meetings, hope they work well and i'll let you know when we get there xx
Hammonia
Really sorry, but Mat and I can't make it to the Stammtisch tomorrow, but will be there next time. Just let us know the date.

Hope you guys have a lot of fun. Sorry again.
mgmike
Hi Hammonia, it is ok. I hope we well see you next time. smile.gif
mgmike
Now we are four english native speakers and four german native speakers ... this looks very good to start an English-German-Stammtisch.

See you tomorrow.

michellekdo
did you guys meet?

my husband and i would be interested in joyning the stammtsich as well.
mgmike
Hello, yesterday it was very nice at our English-German-Stammtisch and we like to continue to meet in regularly intervalls.
In all probability I will organize the next one in two or three weeks. And for the next time I will send all persons who agreed to
come my mobile number. So it will be sure that everybody could find the Stammtisch.

Stay tuned for the next meetup. smile.gif
HamburgChris
Hi.

I'm usually interested in coming to meetings, but it would have to be a totally smoke-free environment. Oma's is not, by any means, smoke-free.
Let me know when a meeting takes place.

Cheers!
mgmike
Hello everybody!

Last sunday we had our first meetup and it was very nice. For that we like to continue the English-German-Stammtisch. smile.gif

The idea ... Who likes to improve his or her german-speaking language skills? We are looking for native english speakers who like to meet native german speakers so that we can pratice together our foreign language skills in a relaxed atmosphere.

Last time we nearly spoke all the time in German ... so it would be nice this time to begin with English and if we like later on we can switch to German. This is a good change for the english native speaker to get acquainted with the german native speaker and it would be easier then to talk in german. wink.gif

Because of the cosy atmosphere of the Cafe September we like to stay there for the second meetup which will be on Sunday, 28. Jan 2007, at 11 o'clock a.m. and if you like have brunch together.

Second meetup 2007: Sunday Brunch 28. Jan 2007

Hi guys,
Chris and I had a great time at the German/English Stammtisch yesterday. We hope to see you all in two weeks and maybe meet some new people who will hopefully come to the next meet up.
Michele
mgmike
Indeed it was very nice and a lot of new people came along. Together we were 10 persons, 6 english native speakers and 4 german native speakers.
That's very good for an English-German-Stammtisch. smile.gif

I still like to have the next meetup at Cafe September. But if anybody has a recommendation of another nice and centrally located cafe like this one
we can also rotate the location.

Next meetup: Sunday Brunch 11. Feb 2007
Preferred language this time: German (take the chance to practice your German language skills smile.gif )
Time: 11 o'clock a.m.
Location: Cafe September, Feldstrasse 60 Ecke Karolinenstraße near the U-Bahn station Feldstrasse

Hi, I've just arrived in Hamburg this week speaking very little German. I don't suppose there's another meet-up planned soon as it would be great to practise some German with other English-speaking people.

This is a great idea! How has it been working out? Please let me know when the next meeting is, my husband and I will be there!

Ps. Is it okay if your German isn't very good yet? Can you still come and observe somewhat, or should we be fluent to join in?
