Hi all,
My mom is coming to visit and we are planning on doing a 3 day trip to prague from berlin. Has anyone done this? For some reason i had it in my head that the train trip would be relatively inexpensive but all i am coming up with is ++100euros per person...am i going crazy?
are there any train tricks i should know about (something like the bayern ticket, but only in berlin, that we could use to get to prague)??
any tips would be greatly appreciated.
best,

you could get the weekend pass (fixed rate ticket for up to 5 people for travel on one day of the weekend) with an extention to get to prague. It would be cheap, but could take forever since you can only take the slower regional trains.
Bus might be a cheaper option.

Booking in advance you can get the Europa Special price of 29 or 39 Euro one way or the Fruhling special of 39 or 49 Euro one way. Tickets are limited though. Normal fare is 55Euro (something)
Also have you a Bahn card? might be worth checking if you can safe cash that way, depending on the amount you travel during the year.

If you have a Bahncard 25, the one-way price from Berlin to Prague is 44euros/person. The trains are frequent. Some trains stop only at Praha-Holesovice and goes to Wien, others also stop at Praha hl. n.. The later might be more convenient. There is also a bus leaving from Dresden to Prague. I have not taken it myself, but have heard that it's cheaper. But it is not comfortable for the tourists from Berlin though. :-)
Other option for you might be to rent a car. For three days, it might be cheaper.
Good luck!

There's also the ride-share option. Noticed it was only 15€ each way. My mom would be into doing the rideshare, as I've done it a few times and had always had a great time, but I know this isn't typical.
Its also a long trip in someone elses car...

Flying there should be cheaper than going by rail. I flew from Cologne to Prague at the end of 2005 and paid 40€ return including airport tax. If I remember correctly it was on Germanwings, but Air Berlin, Easyjet, Ryan Air etc. all have similarly cheap offers if you book a bit in advance.

Flying not a particular cheap option as there is no cheapo airline flying Berlin -Prague route..
Only cheapo flight from Pargue to Germany are:
1) Germanwings to Cologne/Bonn
2) Sleazyjet to Dortmund
3) Intersky to Freidrichshafen.

There's also the good old bus - e.g.
Berlinienbus - they seem to do a return ticket for about €68. Trip takes about 6 hours and should be mostl Autobahn.
