Claiming tax back from Ryanair for unused flight

Anyone ever had any success?

Was supposed to be flying home tomorrow for a friends surprise 30th birthday and my mothers birthday but my company decided yesterday that I can't take the days off mad.gif
Tried last night to change the dates to next month and couldn't believe that it would actually cost more to change the flight than to book a new one, how Ryanair dry.gif

Anyway, as the flight is unused I thought I would be able to at least claim back the tax. Has anyone tried this and succeeded?
Guy
No, but if I remember correctly, they charge an admin fee which is similar in size to the tax you'd get back, if not slightly higher. Probably worth checking the T&Cs first.

I have successfully done this a couple times, but I cant remember if you had to do it before the date of the flight. I spent a while on the website and found an email address for a ryanair customer rep. (no longer have this saved, sorry) and they put through the refund for me.
globalgirl
didn't pay any admin fee.

unlucky! Annoying of your company

you only have to pay the difference + a fixed fee (15€??) so your original tickets muct have been very cheap (<15€). This procedure isnt particularly Ryanair specific either I dont think

considering the above, the tax must therefore have been minimal. Probably not worth the bother I would say - most likely more fruitful to try and have your holiday reinstated - in this case I actually think your company is being more unreasonable than Ryanair

The flights were only around €78, so the tax is small, but it's more the principal and the thought of giving Michael O'Leary money for nothing. I'll go hunting these T&C's, probably buried somewhere that's impossible to find!

Allow changes to internet or telephone reservations.
  1. Unlike the high-fare airlines, Ryanair permit all tickets to be changed upon payment of the requisite change fee and any upgrade amount which may be due in compliance with the normal terms and conditions of Ryanair's change policy. This changeability will allow Ryanair customers to change, flights times, dates, routes and names of passengers travelling.
  2. Ryanair will not allow passengers to cancel bookings already made and paid for because all of our lowest fares are sold on a first come first served basis, and once the booking and payment has been confirmed, that lowest fare may be denied to all subsequent passengers booking travel after that time.

From their website..

From their website, questions about cancellations:

QUOTE
All Ryanair fares are fully changeable flight/dates/times/routes and names (up to 4 hours prior to original flight departure) however fares, fees or charges are non-refundable.Government taxes may be refunded. Ryanair apply an administration charge per person for tax refund requests. If the refund amount due to the customer is less than the applicable refund administration charge then no refund will be made. Tax refund requests must be made within one month from the outward flight travel date.

OK, then I guess that rules out any chance of tax back, the fee is probably more seeing than the tax I paid seeing as the flight was so cheap. sad.gif

found an email address for Ryanair customer service in my email archives. Not sure if it still works, but worth a try.

I'll give that a try and see what the outcome is, thanks!

I got a refund for a couple of flights I had booked, where I hadn't paid more than a euro to two for the flight itself, but would have had to lose out on the 30 euro (at least) in taxes.

They may have recently changed some rules, but like I said.. worth trying

As far as I know, if your company said you could have the time off and then subsequently said you can't have the time off then they have to re-imburse you for any costs for plans you made. There was a thread on it a while ago.
jester
Yeah, I've done that before with my last company. I wasn't given the OK this time. They are just so slow giving an answer that if I wait the flights become too expensive, has happened before. But it's always been OK to take hols, first time they have refused my request sad.gif

Name change on one of my tickets cost £40...guess the refund charge would be around the same?! In which case you'd still get something back...

Just in case anyone is trying to get a TAX refund.

You need to write letter to the above address :-)
