Can anyone provide me with advice on whether I, as a Canadian working in Munich, should file my income taxes in Germany or Canada? I need help determining whether I am a "factual resident" of Canada or a "non-resident". Can anyone refer me to an accountant in Munich that is familiar with Canadian and German tax laws? Thanks for any advice.

did you work in 2006 in Canada? if so, you have to file in Canada too. If not, than just in Germany. Do you work for a Canadian company? Are you being paid in Canadian dollars? if so, you have to file in Canada.
do you have a Germany residency permit? if so, you file german taxes.

if u have earnings in canada like interest revenue, etc. this would require a file in canada as well.

you are a non resident Canadian, you only have to pay taxes for money earned on Canadian soil.
edit- sharpe, i do own property in Canada, but I don't make money on it, or use it, so I don't have to file a claim. And the interest I have on my investments is so small, they don't care to have me file.

no, they know, as the banks send out (i forget the name of the interest slips) for income tax time, has to be in our possesion by end of Febuary. But my dad looks at it and laughs, and just files it away for me.

So if you don't earn money in Canada you don't file tax there. Ok clear. But what if you need a proof of your income for let's say getting mortgage to buy a house in Canada? Banks need your notice of assessment and if you don't have one, it means you have no income there.(disregarding on how much you earn here).
Is there anyway to resolve this matter?

keep a copy of your german declarations or your german tax card to show you are paying taxes.
Canada is not like the US, you really don't have to claim money not earned on Canadian soil. I checked this out before I moved here.
But any further questions that you have you can email Revenue Canada from the government web page (sorry no link- but you are a smart man, I am sure you can
google it).
