We might be moving there in the near future and the only place Ive ever been anywhere near there is Cheddar gorge, Stonehenge etc. Does anyone know where the better areas are and where to stay away from? I dont mind whether town or village and it shouldnt be too long of a commute to Bristol
Thanks
Lassie
move to Clifton in Bristol. It's the nicest part of the city, but with loads of parks, bars, restaurants etc and walkable to city centre. Very nice part of the world.

Clifton?
If you have the money and can put up with posh twats living there.

You want to be in inner Bristol, City of Bristol, within the built up area? Within an an hour-ish commute?
You want to be in a town , a village?
You want countryside, the Coast?
You have children to go to school?
You want somehwere cheap-ish? To buy, to rent?

etc etc

Just keep off moi laaaaand!

Clifton is a lovely area to live in, near the coast, however rather rural and remote from the feel of it! As MT said, depends what you're looking for and what you consider 'better'.

I have a 7 month old son so Id prefer to be somewhere not in the city centre...Im more of a suburbs/small town/village person

Shala00, is it your partner communting to work in Bristol while you look after your young 'un at home?
Are you going to buy or rent?

And whereabouts in Bristol should it be easy to get to?
Bristol is in the top 10 of British cities and if you live on the "wrong" side to work it is a nightmare commute.

Yes My husband would be working in Filton at the Airbus Plant and I would be home with baby. I like to mix with other people though. We are looking to rent first and then buy pretty soonish. I would also hopefully start work again when bub is a bit older

I guessed Filton!

Don't know that side as well, tbh. you've a whole swathe of country side to look at as the connections to Filton aren't bad by car or train.
NOT Yate or Chippenham!

My folks live in Warminster & Dad commutes each day to Filton. He normally drives leaving around 715 or so.
As a warning, the trains in the area are shocking for commuters. Just a thought.

Bath is a really nice city to live in & around half an hour if not less from Bristol.

I lived over the Severn Bridge in Chepstow which is a commuter area to Bristol. Stay away from the St Pauls area that is not the best area, Clifton is a nice area but a bit pricey.

I've got mates who live in St Pauls.
It's a classic inner city area with a high migrant population, poverty, crime.

It's not leafy suburbia for sure but it is home to a lot of people.
Developers have their eye on it though and it is on the cusp of enjoying the "benefits" of gentrification.

What's wrong with Yate? My wife and I are planning to move to Bristol this coming February and thought Yate might be a good commuter town as it has a train connection into Bristol. It seems public transport is pretty lousy outside Bristol and since my wife has never learned to drive it seems to leave us with few choices. We definitely don't want to be in the city as we have kid(s) and dog and want quick access to nature.

Any other suggested areas outside Bristol but with good public commuting options to work in the city?

A friend of ours lives there and from what we've seen (which is only a small bit) it looks like one big housing estate with no charm at all. It is much cheaper than the surrounding areas though, and as you said has good links both into the city (train) and onto the M4 & M5. Our friend works in Filton and the drive there is quick. Also, there are very charming villages nearby.

If you have plenty of cash, and one of you works city-centre, then Clifton is lovely with westbury park, leigh woods and ashton court all on your doorstep if you can bag the right spot. Of course you'd be surrounded by yummy-mummies, aristos and yuppies if you can stand that. The only friend of mine who lived in Bristol stayed near Bedminster which he said was pretty rough (worse than Easton or St Pauls he thought)

I'm in the practical stage of my life so cheap(er) and good access is a big plus. Charm has a lower priority.

If you have plenty of cash.....
Unfortunately not. Not broke, but plenty is a stretch.

Appreciate your thoughts on the area and every bit of info helps as I've not been there before.

Live in Bath!!! It's a fab place, variety of people, variety of areas, generally beautiful, and hilly. Train to Bristol TM in 15 mins. Let me know if you want more info - I'm from Bath. Don't know too much about Bristol, but I know a few people that live there.
