Cortal Consors (https://aktionen.cortalconsors.de/superzins_07/) offers

- 6 Monate lang 4,5% Zinsen p.a.¹ aufs Tagesgeld
- täglich verfügbar, 100% sicher
- kostenlose Kontoführung¹
- bequem per Internet
- inkl. kostenlosem Wertpapierdepot

Does anyone have experience with such offers ? How reliable are they ? Is my money safe ?

Thanks

This is a typical introductory offer - 4,5% for 6 months is good, but then you go down to 3% (which is still quite good compared to much of the rubbish offered in Germany!). The best way to deal with these offers is to be an interest-rate "tart" - simply move your money to the best offer every time the introductory offer ends! The only problem is that the offers are normally only for new customers, e.g. in this offer you are barred if you have been a customer of the bank with in the last 6 months.

CortalConsors is owned by BNP Paribas (France), so you're not putting your money in any fly-by-night institution.

According to Focus your money will be insured, even over €1.000.000 ...

...plus, I've got money with them, so I hope they don't disappear with it! (though I'm looking to move it somewhere else to get a better offer).

With some of these offers you find that the "super" interest only is for the first few thousand Euros or so.
Read the small print carefully.

Does it have to be Germany? I'm sure you could get better rates elsewhere.

Are you totally debt free? I'd use it to pay off any debt I had first of all as that will provide a better return. If you are debt free (lucky bastard), I'd look at a cash ISA if you have any accounts open back in the UK.

If you'd asked a week ago, and had a crystal ball, I'd have said Berlin Zoo - their shares are rarely traded, but have doubled in value thanks to a certain polar bear cub...

If it were me i'd transfer it back to england, the rates are easily better and the transfer doesnt cost much (seems to be free online or as good as)

Aren't there certain investment possiblities in the UK where you have to be a UK taxpayer?

Only availabe to UK residents, even if you have a bank account there.

@ GoonerGirl, YES. They have tightened the regulations, you have to be resident for many schemes.

Thought as much.

No, I am not from the UK.

I do have a housing loan, but what I want to invest is after the max I can pay back towards Sondertilgung.

It was good to know that CortalConsors is not a fly-by-night finance company.

Thanks again

Even if you have a UK bank account that still communicates with you via a UK address, if they have the slightest inkling you are non UK resident they won't sell you the tax reduced products becasue that would be defrauding the Revenue. ph34r.gif

That's true, but shall we say I've found it useful that I have my UK driving license, a credit card and some share certificates with my parents' address and my name on them...

I hear that an elephant is about to be born in Hagenbeck's (Hamburg)... Quick shift of funds in order here...

Anyone have any more advice on this?

I've talked to Citibank and they give 3.80% for 1 year locked in and 3.75% for anytime withdrawal.

Dresdner have an offer for 4.1% for the next week. for 1 year locked in .
