Hello,
It appears that most of the sites I have encountered for rentals in Nuremburg area are agent databases. Most of these include the Maklerprovision. My question is can this be avoided by shopping in local papers and dealing with individual local landlords? I can see putting up 2 months Kaution and 1st months rent, but this added expense of 2+ months extra commission seems excessive, if not all together unnecessary, if you do the ground work yourself. Am I correct in this assumption? Thanks.

Yes. If you deal directly with the owner/landlord there's no commission to pay. Good luck with your flat hunting!

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the 'Berg', we also have flats to rent advertised on our internal website at work located in Nürnberg, Erlangen and the surrounding villages. If you want to know more, send me a PM with your wish list and I'll have a look to see if there is anything that may fit your requests if that helps!?

Resources like TT are a good place to find accommodation without paying a Makler but you can still find listings in the Newspaper as well.
I've lived in 3 different places since I moved to Munich and have never paid a Maklerprovision. I didn't really have to look hard.

I'm not sure if this site is for all of Germany but when I was coming to Munich www.quoka.de had mostly 'non-fee' apartments...
Good Luck
