BVG and S-Bahn have put their fares up a little, beginning April 1, although not across the board. The Kurzstrecke and the €2.10 ticket have not gone up. Cyclists should watch out because there's a new set of tickets for bicycles, replacing the reduced fare tarif previously applicable. A full list of changes available from the BVG here (German) and a brief overview in English of the most important changes here.

1.50 Euro for a bike is a bit pricey for a single ticket. But 8 Euro (increase from 6) for the bike monthly ticket I still find extremely reasonable.

I remember when bike passes were non-existent. It was an included option. When in 2004 they implemented the day bike ticket and the monthly bike ticket (€9 at the time for month) it was met with a bit of resistance, but none the less accepted as change. Now, with the ridiculous one way bike pass and the €15/month bike ticket (30DM/month) it is entirely ridiculous. Its strange how the cost of living keeps increasing (food, energy, rents, transportation, telecommunications, etc.) but the salaries are still reflective of the late 90's. The greedy, cheap mindset of Germans always seem to astound me.
