Only permitted where your residence is registered?

Hi all,

Should one submit the documents for the application to get married in the Standesamt of the district only where one is registered? Or can one live in one place (and be registered there), but submit the docs and then marry in a Standesamt in another place/city district?

Would be very thankful for a short and quick response on that.

For submitting the papers in Standesamt, one of the partner should be registered in the jurisdiction of that standesamt, if no one is living in that area, it will not be possible.

Not true. You can of course get married in a district where neither of you are registered as residents. It will involve slightly more paperwork and it will cost you more than if you did it in the district of which you are a resident, but it's certainly possible. Contact the Standesamt where you want to marry and ask them.

Getting married in a historic "standesamt" is like a tourist industry these days. http://www.hochzeitsservice-online.de/raeu...ches/index.html

I think the one in Augsburg is quite popular, but for the life of me I can't remember why? Nordlingen also gets its fair share of tourist marriages.
