The shamrock holds texas hold em tournaments every thursday and sunday with a 10 euro entry, they have up to 8 tables going at once. so if you looking for regular games head down there weekly.
protocool_77
yeah but i think Greg is planning on cancelling the Sunday game.. not sure though.
but yeah Thursdays there are about 30 people atleast.
protocool_77
jaxon are you interested in playing today ?
jaxon
cant do mate got to work behind the jump at shammy tonight.
666
what does the winner get on the thursday?
protocool_77
It depends on the number of people playing..
an amount goes to the month price and the rest is divided among top 6.. the winner getting the bigger part
usually it is about 100 euros for the winner. *approx*
protocool_77
There are 4 people in total now.. looking for atleast 1 or 2 more..
the location has changed..
if interested let me know soon..

come on guys?...it will be fun!!!...

I played once at the Shamrock - price is cheap ,but pay-out structure is weak as they save half the pot for a point structured end-of-the-month payout to the one who has the most points.

Still - last 5-6 players get a frew beer, which is nice.

Blinds go up too fast - you're busy shuffling more than you are playin a hand.
player skill level, for the most part, is low. Lots of young Germans - one guy wasn't even old enough to drink!
luck plays more of a role than skill
Bar: great bar, great people workin' there, great selection of drinks.

Legality: Cash games are illegal in Germany, only registered tournaments are legal. There was a police raid (200 or so cops) that hit a tourney in Munich, but since all was on the up and up, everything went ok. I had EUR 6 in cash on the table during the tournament at The Shamrock (it was the change for my brew) and the owner asked me kindly to remove it. It was a bit strict, so I must assume the fuzz got on their case.

If you have wheels, I suggest going down to Salzburg. The Austrian Laws are different than in Germany. Salzburg is about a 70-80 minute drive. THey have a nice card room. http://www.poker-club.at/ They have decent tournaments with 92% money pay-out (8 pct goes to paying dealers + house). food is good, tournaments are well run. Also, quality of the players is much better - and nice to have professional dealers + players which are laid back and know what they're doing. ONly down side is the size; only 3 tables; max 32 players. Also a bit smokey. They are looking for a new location, however. After the Tourney, they start a 2-4 pot limit cash game, then a 1-2 pot limit cash game.

what about private cash games ? are they illegal too ?
666
yeah Austria is cool, so is London for playing poker, but unfortunetely we're in Munich, where the laws are a bit stricter, private cash games might still be illegal but the polizei wont raid a house for a €20 pot.

I went down there a weekend or 2 ago to check the place out - they are currently doing up their main casino rooms, so they only have slot machines at the moment. It should be open first weekend in May.

Hi All,

I have this link for Munich poker:

http://www.stadt-poker.de/

I haven't been here (can anyone comment on it?) - but I am up for trying out some live poker in Munich soon... so please anyone keep me posted if there's anything going on or you are going to an event.

I played in one tournament called www.gsop.de which was a series of STT shootouts leading to a final table. Was OK but rake was serious steep.

Cheers

Has anyone yet been to the Bavarian Poker tour tournaments yet ?

Been there once (a little while ago). It was a fair event, but for me there were too many "semi pros" talking about their moves and bad beats and what happened in Salzburg and endlessly discussing other players' moves with the dealer who seemed to forget that there are some other players at the table (amongst his close friends).

And (most important at least for me) the mood wasn't like "hey let's stay at the place even after playing"... but this counts for most tournaments I played in. Quick check-in, quick blind raises, quick luck play, quick goodbye (and always really always the same people around, and not the kind of 'friendly fellas' just too often :(

Theres a kinda 'poker open-air event' planned in a beer garden in Schwabing, let me know if anyone's interested, don't want to spam the forum

cheers!

I'd be interested in a friendly game in the beer gardens, though i am still really a beginner.
Mr Stuart
We were thinking of an afternoon of beer garden poker on one of the up coming Feiertagen. My only concern is that if cash games are illegal in public bars etc unless they are licensed, how happy are the owners going to be if you turn up and start playing in their beer garden?

Has anyone tried this / any thoughts??
Owain Glyndwr
use chips and settle the cash afterwards.

Has anyone tried out the 'Casino Royal' since? I'd be interested in cash games if they have some...

It turns out that Casino Royal is not a casino at all, they do not have a license to run cash games, they are only allowed to run tournaments for prizes (as with any other place already mentioned in this thread). The guy I was in contact with says that they run regular roulette / balck jack / poker tournaments, when these are I don't know, the web site isn't very good, so it might be worth popping in and seeing what they are advertising.

I had my 30th Birthday party there a couple of weeks back. We had a great night, everyone got dressed up in suits / evening dress, they ran small poker and roulette tournaments for us (no cash involved - just for fun) and we gave out prizes at the end to the winners. We also had a private bar, dance floor and soundsystem. The cost to rent (including croupiers etc) is only slightly higher than renting out rooms at bars etc around munich, hence if you are looking for an "alternative" party location, I seriously recommend this.
