Atlantic City - New Jersey

Tourist tips on what to see and do there

I'm going to Atlantic City for work at the end of April and will have about a day and half to play around with over the weekend. I'll do a bit of shopping but I get bored of that very quickly - I'll be on my own so don't really want to be hanging around casinos all night; anyone got any tips on what to see and do or know the place at all? Are there any day-trips you could recommend outside Atlantic City? The alternative is to stay with a friend in Philadelphia but as I've been there lots before and am going there later in the week anyway I thought it would be good to see somewhere new.

you could take a stroll along the boardwalk I guess

Do not stroll along the boardwalk alone!

OK thanks, will ask some friendly looking stranger to escort me!

I don't want to just sit in the hotel all evening so if it's not an ideal place for a young woman on her own at night then a day trip somewhere within a couple of hours of it would be great (but not Philly or NYC) Anyone know of any nice seaside towns nearby... I miss the sea, it's got to be somewhere on the sea!

EDIT: Thanks JerseyBoy, someone else recommended Cape May too and it does sound good. Don't mind chilly weather at all, I grew up beside a chilly windswept beach!

There are sometimes some interesting shows in the casinos. Too bad it's not Summer, or I would recommend a quick jaunt down to Wildwood.

If you DON'T mind the fact that it's probably still quite cool, I would recommend:

Wildwood
Cape May
Sea Isle City (or even Ocean City - but it's a "dry" town)
Barnegat Light House (northen tip of Long Beach Island)
Island Beach State Park

Wildwood would be at the top of my list if it was warmer. Simply visiting the different casinos is in itself pretty cool and will take some time to do. In the immediate neighborhood there is not a whole lot to do. The Boadwalk right in front of the Casinos is fairly safe and the hot dogs are awesome! There is one place near Trumps that is the best.
