Is anybody interested in a Toytow meet-up for IT professionals?
There are many IT-Stammtische in Munich, limited to topics and flavors of software - as in, We only do BSD, We only do Linux, We only admit contractors.
How about meeting out of the box?
Like I am interested in Agile ethods of project managment,
Linux, Suse, Unix, Open Source, Streaming, Web Services...

"Toytown meet-up for IT professionals"...oooh, don't like the sound of that at all. Scary monsters! What would you talk about?

Sorry, I am too unprofessional to turn up to this meeting.
To be honest, once I have spent the whole day talking IT in the office, I am not really intrested in doing it in the evening either.
Good luck with your event.

In theory, it sounds like a great way to network and to expand the old knowledge base as I am working with most of these or simply interested in learning about the rest --

To be honest, I am more inclined to agree with Pootle on this one.
If you do get something started, please post and I may be able to attend a few -- schedule permitting, weellll as long as I can get beer/food?
Margret, were you thinking more along the lines of an informal drinking night that just happens to be mostly IT people with the conversation possibly heading in that direction too, or more of a structured meeting time night like a User Group meeting, with seminars etc? Also what exactly is IT? Is it like people involved in computers but not in the technical sense, more in the management and marketing sense? Its not a programmers thing I dont think, but some people seem to think IT=Programming.

KZA,
thanks for asking,
no way no user group talk at all.
more like in terms of networking.
Discussion trends - where things are going.
That's why I am suggesting broader spectrum of topics.
Also discussion of general work issues, Dilbert - style.

Still confused, so its not beer drinking, and its not about technical issues, I suspect by using the word "networking" you are talking about swapping business cards rather than going over performance models of the latest IPv6 implementation. Can you give us an example as to some of the topics you would like to cover? Personally I think the technical seminar combined with beer drinking format could be interesting.

also I'd like to add, those among us who "only" use software tools -say- designing
Lamborghini's with CATIA, or ...spacecarft or windsurfboards or yachts or torqes, are also welcome...I mean it all is sort of related...that's the emphasis of this initiative.

So we are limiting the field now ? Well I'm out then, I'm a networker ! (Cisco routers and all !)

It would appear that she is widening the field to include designers or something, or unless everyone that USES a computer is also in IT. (Isnt IT more about creating software tools than using them?)
Actually I am totally confused, what margret suggests could be a really great and interesting idea. It would possibly be helpful if she could set down a place and time, and perhaps a slightly more detailed agenda, and then people can simply turn up if it sounds like something for them.

Decisions as to *when* have to be postponed till after the Harpers and Queens party.
I can't think beyond that right now.
So please go ahead an bitch your hearts out to why this idea is completley weird.
And then we meet. Or not at all. Suits me fine.
