I am trying to open a web page that, until last night, was live. When I Google it, the web page doesn't open any more. How long then will the link be active in view of the fact that i think the web page has been pulled?

It could be days/weeks or months, it depends on when google goes back to try and find it. The more popular a site is the more frequent it gets spidering. Of course if you are out of luck it might be on
www.archive.org for eternity !

Is there a link to the cached page after the link description? Normally google can also show you a cached version of it. Either that or set your browser to Offline, then maybe your local cached version will be shown instead.

I saved the original web page to hard disc since I needed the details and I do that often if there is ever a web page that I consider has important or very useful information.
The Google link first gives (in blue and underlined) the title of the person's professional organisation. It then, in 2 lines of text, gives the person's name, address, email and telephone number.
So anyone who wants to contact that person can still do so as even if the link is dead (or rather, what it leads to is) the important information is still reproduced in the link. Incidentally, this person is a medic who I approached in a professional capacity as he was recommended to me by someone. I wrote him a letter to his hospital first in hard copy and then followed it up by an email with the same query as I wanted to be sure he got it.
For some strange reason, I just feel he does not wish to be contacted (so why have his details up online?) and has contacted the site admin to pull that web page. Is this a possible scenario?

How on earth are we supposed to know why a particular page is no longer online? But as you've now contacted him twice, if you don't get a response then take it as a sign that he doesn't want to reply. Or that he's moved jobs, or has died, or is on a year-long sabbatical or that he's simply too busy to reply to you straight away. Or maybe he's scared you're going to sue him.
