Does anyone know where I can buy a humidifier? What is it called in german? I need one for my apartment as it tends to get pretty dry inside.
well- I went thru this last winter- I cant remember the name something having to do with feuchtig but I remember them being a seasonal item- not really available in summer and they have 2 kinds here- one is the electric humidifyer- plug into the wall, fill with water, has a filter etc.
two is this flat plastic thing that you pour water into and hang on your radiator. Much cheaper- comes in many sizes- but keeping the water clean and monitoring how much humidity is released is not possible- all based on how high you turn on the heat. I recommend the first one and have seen them in places like Conrads, Walmart, Toom- any big electronic/household item store - I have only seen the flat plastic ones in Kaufmanns.

Yup. I am looking for the electrical one. I checked at Walmart y'day and they didn't seem to have one. Guess I will have to wait another month or so when it starts getting cooler to find one.

What you'll need to look out for is a "Befeuchter" or "Luft (air) befeuchter".
e.g. go to
www.obi.de , click on search, type in Befeuchter, then choose the online shop one, and you get a list with the prices. Unfortunately there is no URL to c&p to here.

Cool! I searched online and it seems there are a bunch of places selling 'Luftbefeuchter' online. Just google it and you will find some links. Cheers!

We got one of the electric (ultrasonic) ones. It does work well, BUT be warned, your apartment will get coated with a very fine layer of calc and stuff from the water. The water is being "misted" into the air rather than boiled, so all the impurities, calc, minerals etc go into the air as well and end up falling as an invisible mist of calc.
This made a mess of the TV and I think it also nuked a dvd burner of mine (it gets *everywhere*)

The bad thing about humidifiers is you have to clean them out everyday. There are these plastic things that you can hang on your heater that work very well. you just fill them up with water, and the water evaporates. also, the dips on the window ledges are for water as well.

@ MommyinDE ..
You can buy liquid humidifier disinfectants or ... a few drops of tea-tree oil works well, so you don't have to clean them regularly.

Saturn, Media Markt, Conrad. Look or ask for the word Befeuchter.
You really should work on your topic titles. They come across as somewhat rude.
