Oktoberfest Tips - How to make the most of a visit

Gday people - I just had a chat with the oktoberfest queens - Munich people - real freaks and they know the security from the tents. We trepped down there the other day and had a chat...everyones gearing up for it.

"pins for security"
Its is best to get there as soon as possible.
Try to make friends with the security (girls that means you guys ) be nice to allof them despite them being rude at the best of times. Have been advised that if your really nice and flirtacious they will tend to let you in if your needing fresh air later on. Once your out your out most of the time. Advise the security guy that your needing fresh air but your going back in. Ive heard that in the past (last year) they have given the security guards things like a Pin (broach). The girls stuck it on there jackets and when she returned they were like - we seemany girls who are you. And she pointed at the pin she gave him and VOULLA! it pays to be nice...

Secondly drink - Drink before you get there - and it will put you in a better mood and on a smoother run.

Meeting up - thats a hard one. Meet up at a strict designated table... Next to an exit - security seem to be at the exits... Its "SAFFFFFER" what ever the hell that means when you have 10,000 pissed sods in one room. and sms locations.

thats about it... Anyother ideas id be morethan happy to learn from!

cheers

The only tip I'd add to Keydeck's fine list would be eat some food.
Line your stomach, have a big breakfast or a sizeable lunch before you go. It can be hot in the tents, can take a while for your food to turn up and if you try and quench your sweated thirst with beer, well...you could be too pissed to eat that chicken (hand it over then, I love 'em).
A good ol' Weisswürstfrühstuck with a Weizen will set you up nicely.
This was a public information message

Ooh, excellent point Katrina.

The perfect breakfast to set you up nicely. Recommend the Augustiner on Landsbergerstr as it's close to the Wiesn and they do it right.

eating food is essential. easier said than done after three days on the pints, when all you want is more pints, but i always grab some soup from the place next to theresienwiese u-bahn if nothing else appeals.

as for security, i find that the hofbrau particularly will let you in if you go round the back and wait patiently. don't get all in their face and lairy and a wait of 5 mins usually does the trick. other tents are harder to get into, but a drink or two outside and then head in for the last hour or two can often be a good move.

Also, find out where the toilets are and sit close to them. When it gets to 8pm and you've downed your 5th mass and have to go to the toilet every 20 minutes, you'll be glad you did...

Top tips Keydeck!

As the Wies'n food tends to be expensive I often take along sausages, chesse slics etc. You aren't meant to but...

Did think of another tip: if you have visitors from outside of Munich, it might be an idea to give them a phonecard each (with contact numbers attached) or at least an unstamped MVV single ticket with the relevant U-Bahn/S-Bahn station written on it clearly.
One night at last year's Wies'n two of my visitors got lost on the way back from the toilets and had no power left in their mobiles. Phonecards saved the day. Yeah someone might well lend you their phone, but will you remember the numbers?
Did almost consider getting henna tattoos (with my contact details) for them both

Or live withing stumbling distance from the Wiesn and leave a trail of brez'n crumbs behind you.

The henna tattoo might not be a bad idea. Of course, it should be somewhere discrete so as not to scare off potential Ofest mates. They may think you've already pulled and gotten the number of someone.
