Driving schools in the Stuttgart area - Germany

Including recommendations for English-speakers
Gredik
Hello everyone,

I have an Oregon drivers license which fortunately means all I need to do is take the written test. Can anyone recommend a driving school that has English materials? We live in Sindelfingen but heading into Stuttgart (or elsewhere for that matter) isn't a problem.

Thanks in advance!

Hi All,
Currently I am living in Stuttgart (Filderstadt to be more precise) and want to obtain a driving liscence for car.
However, due to my poor German language sad.gif , I would prefer a driving school that also offers courses in English. If anyone has any idea of such a Farschule, specially in Vaihingen or Filderstadt area, it would be highly appreciated.
Cheers!!

Hi, I am new to the forum. A colleague of mine got his drivers license done here - The owner of this school is Mr. Joerg Holzmann. My colleague speaks minimal German so I am sure he can speak English. You can also check is website http://www.fs-speed.de - I might end up going to him too, only if possible I prefer some place closer to where I live

Hope this helps!

Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and learn to drive. Can anyone recommend any good driving schools in Stuttgart? I speak reasonably good german so I'm not necessarily looking for an english speaking teacher.

I've never had any lessons before so what questions should I ask when visiting a prospective driving school?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi all, could you maybe recommend some school in Stuttgart that's not to expensive? I already have a drivers license (unfortuntelly not recognized in Germany for periods longer than 6 months...), so I would have to take just a couple of classes and pay all possible taxes/materials/exams/etc. Anyone knows what does the "Grundgebuehr" stand for?

Hello. I have a valid driver's license from the U.S. and I heard in the U.S. you can obtain an international license/permit by paying a small fee. However, I didn't get a chance to do this. Is there anywhere in Suttgart where I might be able to get an international license/permit without taking classes?

A hold has been put on the issuing of international licenses from Baden-Wuttenburg (since Feb 29th). The base license office referred me to the AAA website and then mail forms to States:

AAA = http://www.aaa-calif.com/travel/idp.aspx

Application: http://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpapplc.html

If you are already overseas, mail the completed form and other required materials to AAA/IDP, 1000 AAA Dr., Heathrow, FL 32746 Attn: Mailstop #28.

Hi,

I'm also looking for a driving school. I want to get my existing licence converted to a German one. Since I'm converting, I don't have to do the compulsory driving hours, just as many as necessary. I've heard that the instructor decides what "necessary" means and some rip you off by making you take extra driving classes...so any recommendations? There's one near my place who's charging 150 for registeration and 27 Euros for the driving classes. Is that ok?

I speak reasonably good German but if possible would prefer a doctor who can speak English...ditto for the driving instructor.

Thanks in advance,
hasan

P.S. anyone want to give away their used driver's license theory test material to good home?

Hasan the € 27 an hour is a good deal. The e 150 should cover all the paper work. However if you already have a drivers liscence from a European country you only need a translation to get a German one.On your profile it does not mention your nationality
