Does anyone know somewhere in Munich (central) that does good fried chicken a la Colonel ?

I just developed a craving and Augsburg is a little far to go for a bargain bucket.

maybe Im pregnant !?

Why yes in fact, I do know where you can get KFC-like chicken. Ehrwalderstrasse, near the Westpark U-Bahn. Go out the west exit, and the shop is only about 100m down the road on the north side of the street. I haven't checked it out in a few years, but I'm pretty sure it's still there.
marka
I have heard tantalising rumours that there is somewhere down by Isator...anyone know if there is any truth behind it ?
koala
Ehrwalderstrasse is called American Chicken Company or something similiar ... but I've no longer cause to visit Ehrwalderstrasse - so I don't know whether its still there. Probably still is because its been there a long time.

Hauptbahnhof
marka
Hauptbahnhof is a big place :-)

any clues ??
jordigo
not sure I am be able to describe this very well - but there is a "food court" type area where they sell all varieties of junk food from kebab to fish n chips (and even fruit. yuck!) in front of the platform from where the ICE to frankfurt goes. I am not 100% sure (don´t ask...) but I do seem to remember buying fried chicken there...
Kings Town
Delicious it was too...

Just round the corner from me at Westpark U-Bahn. Personally I found the food to be overly greasy and tasteless (despite my being arseholed at the time).

I'm still surprised that there's not 1 KFC here in Munich - McDonalds on every corner though...

Does anyone know why?
NOFXmike
it's possible to be "overly greasy"?
jml
Sweet mother of ... Ive been wondering about the existence of this place. Thanks -do they actually deliver fried chicken? OMG if a bucket is involved Im never leaving my house again.
roots
Nice colors. And stars too wink.gif

I thought possibly to protect the local chicken chain, wiener wald...why would you name a chicken place wiener wald...anyhoo just a guess...

btw: since the title is aksing for my opinion..yes. i love fried chicken. homemade is best but a lot of hassle especially since theres kfc, popeyes, churchs, grandys, you name it...it does seem to taste better in the south though on a proper sunday afternoon dinner with biscuits, gravy, fresh tomatoes, greens, fried okra, black eyed peas... smile.gif

PS: hey mods can you remove the cross reference to the original thread in my post. now that its all together it looks like im a moron referencing the thread im posting in. especially since the thread is like only 10 posts loing. i mean i am a moron but not for that specific reason.

Inaccurate moron-ness since removed by admin

Perhaps if Wiener Wald actually did Fried chicken pieces, then that might be an argument...

I haven't tried this place but I am a sucker for friend chicken so am more than happy to try when I get back in town and give my opinion.
jml
I never said it was a good guess wink.gif If KFC ever does come to Munich (please someone get the franchise going here) I hope they just stick to buckets. KFC was doing the roast chickens a while back (it flopped), not to mention their other (some not fried) options chicken sandwiches and wraps. They do these popper things now too which were terrible. Dry, dry, dry. mad.gif
roots
Fried chicken to fried chicken I think Popeye's is better than KFC.
Church's is just crap. Holy, but crap.

So it's exactly like US KFC places biggrin.gif

@Roots
Popeyes and Chruchs are owned by the same company...
The best chicken going when I was back home was from a place called "Roasters"
started by country singer Kenny Rogers.
roots
Ah "Roasters". We got some over there in Maryland. Not a bad place. A bit like Boston Market which is another good place. My favourite chicken joint in America is "Chicken Out Rotisserie". I am not sure if it is nationwide but they have some of the best chicken wraps and finest mashed potato gravy.

according to the kfc german website there is a KFC branch due to open here next summer. On the jobs page they are looking for staff so it does seem to be really going ahead. They took their time but at least now are getting their act into gear.

I second that roots, on the favorite - Popeye's has a touch more pepper in the batter, which I like.

but overly greasy? in the land of pork fat and wurst that ain't possible. have you seen the faces of these people??? tongue.gif

3 KFCs in Augsburg. Road trip anyone?
anabi
Ah... a KFC thread...

@roots - I'd take either a KFC or Popeye's (though I'm a KFC man myself).

Took my German gf to KFC while back home and she was hooked… she actually wonders herself why there isn't a KFC here (her opinion is that KFC would fit the German tastes far more than McDs, etc). Anyway everytime we have a discussion about what's for dinner one of us always says "ah, if only there was a KFC in town".

We took a field trip to AFC here and both agreed it was tasteless/bland, greasy (and that's compared to KFC! ) crap.

We've thought about making a trip just to get some… you'd wish some enterprising/starving person would start a little business where they collect orders until say 3pm, go get the KFC bring it back and deliver it to you in the evening… I'd gladly pay a 10 Euro charge for KFC (that desperate).

Having said all this I still feel guilty about eating KFC given all the bad press they get from the PETA folks… but I'm an addict!

KFC in Munich? Oh. My. Giddy. Aunt.
Am constantly trying to become less of a bloater but with KFC here, the end is truly nigh. It is truly finger-lickin' good, especially when it is fresh and you're trying to eat it but it is too hot but you don't care about first degree burns. Or maybe that's just me?
And the coleslaw. Oh the coleslaw.
jml
Sweet Anabi you're a genius. How about a KFC night. It would be cold but still good. Possibly one of the usual suspect TT hangouts might be willing to host this for a fee and/or a drink minimum. Reservations required in advance naturally. I wonder if they would sell the biscuits raw. Hmmm...

I agree, popeyes is damn good but I love that okra and tenders from church's.

PS. Ditto to everything Katrina said. Especially the bloater part.
anabi
@Katrina - I'm with you on that one... on my trip to London last week did I go for Indian, F&C, etc? Nope... when not in meetings I was at KFC mowing down chickens by the bucket.

God knows how many lbs/kgs would be added by TTers with a KFC in Toytown

I hope they have the baked beans and coleslaw as well smile.gif
SleeplessInMunich
NOTE: this place they are talking about is NOT KFC!!! It is some copycat resturaunt called American Fried Chicken. It isn't particularly good and nowhere near what you'd expect from KFC.
I've eaten there 3 times (as it is on the way back from Wal-Mart) and its not something you would go out of your way for.
For the record, I love KFCs. So don't go rushing out to AFC expecting the same.
jml
Not particularly good but good enough to eat 3 times eh... wink.gif

PS< screw it. Road Trip to KFC in Augsburg.
SleeplessInMunich
More for convenience and my son than anything else and 3 time in the last 2 years or so...not that much really. cool.gif

BBQ Beans. Coleslaw. Chicken Filet Burger. Perfection.
Gotta laugh at that BK ad - Pimp My Burger
Until KFC turns up unfortunately the McDonalds Rock n' Royal Thursday Special with Chili Peppers and Bacon Double is the Munich Food of The Gods.
patster
And the main KFC in Augsburg has just been done up.

mmm, haven´t been there in ages and will be passing by at lunchtime today...

Don´t you get lots of those chicken and chips place in Toytown though? You know, chicken like wot you get at the oktoberfest? with chips.

There is an ace one here, the chips are wunderbar.

Augsberg is only 45min away by train. They leave Hbf like every 20-30 min.

Depending on which one you get,how full it is, and where you sit, it's possible to get there and back for free (Not get tix checked), and if you
do get checked, just tell'em you got on at the last stop and buy them at that time..
HeyFrito500
This is a crap thread... now I want KFC and the nearest one to me (Wuerzburg area) is Frankfurt! Blah... But someone mentioned that they'd do a KFC night in Munich, but it would be cold... Cold fried chicken rules... Wow, it's 9:48 am and I am craving KFC, that's bad.

Know what I really miss now that I think of it, is Jalapeno Poppers. Yummy! Even Jack in the Box (California peeps will know it) had great Jalapeno Poppers. Sigh... can't even find a Jalapeno here, getting a popper in a restaurant is highly unlikely I suppose. Though Burger King here had something that was similar, but not really that good, forgot what they were called.

Mmmm... Jalapenos.

Same here! biggrin.gif It's 1030 and I'm going nuts!
I must admit that I'm a Popeye's man through and through, I find their batter to be lighter and just tastier overall. KFC usually has me feeling bloated and wondering by how many minutes I've just reduced my personal life expectancy.

Beggars can't be choosers though...
jml
Hey Frito... I think i saw some poppers in a box at where else, the Walmart. (AND btw..it is "THE walmart " to folks in the know). Next time I go I'll check it out for you. smile.gif
jml
PS: do you think if we keep this thread going, the KFC folks will invite us for a special grand opening, that is whenever they get their asses in town wink.gif
Katrina
Can someone contact KFC and ask QUANDO QUANDO QUANDO?
Jules Winnfield
Awesome! An Oscar ceremony red carpet deal. Reporters elbowing each other in the face to get to ask us questions on how fried chicken changed our lives, stampeding hysterical fans who we’d throw sample pieces of fried chicken at for them to fight over. The works! huh.gif
anabi
Great… thought the thread had went to sleep and my craving forgotten until something could be done about it. I might just have to go this weekend.

For those old enough to remember… imagine Sting singing in a ghostly voice "I waaaaant my KFC… I waaaaaant my KFC" - big drum solo - etc. smile.gif

Oh and I'm thinking TT'ers shoud get some VIP status at the opening... There's going to be a friggin' mob scene come opening day ohmy.gif
jml
In the meantime, maybe someone can convince Hazza to make a monster run and have a KFC night with a cover. X dollars will get you 3 pieces, some coleslaw and a beer. Mmmm chicken and beer...

Anytime sunday - wednesday of next week would be good for me. biggrin.gif
anabi
Chicken and beer? Hmmmm actually I think it's supposed to be Porn 'n Chicken wink.gif

Though I don't think Hazza will be throwing Vivid videos on the screens
UrbanAngel
Went to KFC in NYC and got food poisoning,so I've gone right off it!
And the food poisoning kicked in on the flight home... not pleasant, I can tell you!
Good food on the plane though, a decent curry on Air India hehe NYC-London-Bombay
jml
Anabi, keep your porn away from my chicken.

JML, that looks like a darn good night out. Someone else can chew the leg for me though, I'd be concentrating my efforts on KFC and beer.
roots
Just glanced through the thread (didnt read) and I am guessing that someone is hatching a plan to go on a road trip to Augsburg for some fried chicken. I am in. If I am not in town then I hope there will be another trip. Chicken is my weakness. smile.gif
anabi
@jml

No problem... actually seeing Ron Jermey naked/having sex would cause me to lose any appetite - even for KFC!

Though the Vivid gals... let me think on that one.
roots
@anabi
Hey man, don't you say nothing bad about my buddy Ron. We were co-stars once and were pretty close biggrin.gif
