Munich's 43rd Frühlingsfest opens on the Theresienwiese from 20.Apr thru 06.May.
This event signals the beginning of the "Volksfest Season".

The Fest is open daily from 1100-2300 (2330 on Fri/Sat). This years event consists of two large beer tents with daily live music,
a beergarden, and lots of carnival-type rides. On the second Friday there will be a fireworks show.

So, there it is... you have until April 20 to make your plans. Let the sign-ups begin!

The Festival website: Frühlingsfest Theresienwiese has the entire program of events..

Jeeves
Same place as the Oktoberfest.
You could try the Theresienwiese subway station. Just a wild guess, mind.

Hi,

Is there a group of you guys going? I'm curious..coz I happen to be in town from April 22 to 23 alone...and I definitely wanna check Frühlingsfest out...so I'd love to meet some people up to go with...
Can anyone tell me how I can sign up?

Thanks
Jeeves
Just took a lunchtime stroll across the Wiesn. Preparations are going on apace: rides being bolted together, that kind of stuff. The tents look miniscule compared to the Oktoberfest, mind.

Rather speaks for the Frühlingsfest, don't you think biggrin.gif
Jeeves
No, I do think it does rather.
Jeeves
Just taken another lunchtime stroll around the construction site. When I wrote "the tents" yesterday I was exaggerating in number if not in spirit. Make that "the tent".
ruapehu
you are making it sound more and more attractive to me, Jeeves

So, "the ride" and "the snack stand" are being set up, too? Isn't the beer-tent Augustiner? (another reason to go there)
NOFXmike
One of them, yes...though I hate Augustiner. If it's the same as the last few years, there's two tents. Seriously, go to the states, buy colt 45 and try to tell me it's not the exact same shit.
Captain Ridiculous!
Man: Doctor! Doctor! I keep thinking !'m the Frühlingsfest!
Doctor: You know your trouble? You're too tense! (2 tents)

It kind of doesn't work written down. You have to say... ..oh never mind!

Tips to find stuff in Munich.
We have Google here. Type in "Frühlingsfest Theresienwiese" and if you understand German or click on [Translate this page] you can find out stuff.
Also www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/index.html can help to navigate via public transport.
Finally Google Maps can help you find streets and places. And of course the Toytown website that has useful information.

Are there any other places a newcomer should look?

This sounds like a good plan for a Friday beergarden for this week! Has anyone spotted the sitting outside area? Is it big enough for the all of us?
ian
Weather not looking so good now for an outside Beergarden. 13deg according to the BBC.
Allershausen
Must be a different BBC to the one I'm looking at then,'cos mine says 20°C on Friday! smile.gif
ian
Ah, but if you pay your UK TV license they give you the right data.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=0053
I also tried Fahrenheit. That was 55deg. Good old British Fahrenheit!
This was for Munich as "Location "Allershausen" does not exist.

Allershausen
So it's going to be 7°C warmer at the airport! So it's true, planes do cause global warming! tongue.gif
Fahrenheit, yes I remember that, they still use it in some third world countries I believe.
ian
Other reports are somewhere in between 17-18 deg. I dont think we'll go out to the Airport just for that.

I sauntered over yesterday lunchtime again and now there are indeed two tents.
The place was still a big Baustelle though so I've no idea about the sitting-outside area.

@Jeeves
Thanks for checking it out. You seem to be spending a lot of time there!
If I were to pick a meeting point for Friday, and I post that we'll meet in the first few rows in from the front entrance of the Augustiner tent, will people be able to find the right tent do you think? Or will I have to state a landmark of some sort?

cheers
(Edit: clarified the targeted seating area above)
Allershausen
Do you mean the first few rows as you go in the main entrance? I assume the layout is similar to the wiesn tents, it's a while since I've been to the Frühlingsfest.
Janx Spirit
Just heard that they have added a toilet (unisex)
ian
OK Folks

I'm officially nominating a meeting place for this Friday in the Augustiner tent at the Frühlingsfest! from 18:00 (20th April)

We'll be sitting in the first few rows in from the front entrance. Look out for people you recognise (fairly redundant sentence) or message/call me on 0172 8227752 to find out exactly where we are sitting. If anyone gets there early and gets a place, please let me know (SMS message) so I can pass it on to any others who may be early.

Its going to be like the Oktoberfest all over again! 'cept its nothing like it!

Ian

The Frühlingsfest is at the Theresienwiese (the Oktoberfest site) U-Bahn Theresienwiese

Allershausen
Oh no, you mean we've got to drink beer in large glasses, listen to oompah band music and possibly talk to the locals, no doubt dressed in Dirndls, the locals that is, not us, well unless you really want to Ian! Well I guess I can force myself to come along...Prost! smile.gif

I was wandering around the Frühlingsfest yesterday late afternoon, and I have never seen anything like the atmosphere going on there. Maybe I was there exactly at the wrong moment... The crowd that was there was an average of 13-18 year old kids hanging around in groups staring at the "members" of other groups with a very bad atmosphere. I wasn't surprised when it went wrong and a couple of kids started to take a hit at each other. The cops were massively present so that didn't take long before it got kind of quiet again. But it wasn't a "fest" at all at that moment...

It looked like the kids from Neuperlach had a day off in town...
Ratbert
Yep, all the dregs were out last night (they have to walk by my place to get there). I have never seen so many bad hair cuts - the faux hawk seems to be particularly popular.

As far as the Fruhlingsfest goes, well, the beer is still good, but that is where the comparison to Oktoberfest ends. The people are all from the burbs, a real "bridge and tunnel crowd", (or a Sudbury Saturday Night if that makes more sense for you). Either way, I would advise you to wait for 5 months, but yes, if you must, it is at Theresienwiese Ubahn.
zee
Fruehlingsfest seems to be famous for that. Neuperlach meets Hasenbergl meets cops ... I was quite shocked last Friday, first time I've been there in the evening.
bluedave
Really shocking tonight, they made us drink Augi masse with a superb band on stage, what more torture can they put us through >? sad.gif
ian
Another good night at the Fruhlingsfest! Tomorrow 6th May is the last night. Ignore the juveniles, drink the beer, clap to the crazy music and soak up the atmosphere!
