PlayStation 3, commonly abbreviated PS3, is Sony Computer Entertainment's third video game console. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.
The console was released in Japan and the U.S. back in November.
It goes on sale in Germany and throughout Europe on Friday March 23, 2007.
Kaufhof on Munich's Karlsplatz are opening at 6am.
Is it worth the €599 price tag?

my bf bougth a special gaming magazine so he could show me what this PS3 is all about. i said it was okay to buy a new t.v. now he's looking to see which t.v. goes best with PS3!!! i asked him to wait until we got back from holiday. we'll see. but as i understand it, for 600 Euro you can do a lot with the thing.

i'd have to say, don't buy. if you see the launch lineup most of the games are on the xbox 360 already, and from what i've read on gaming websites, the comparisons they have done with the games on 360 to playstation3, the 360 games look better. the two machines are very similar in power, with each having things the other doesnt.
also, a reason for me not to buy one is that you cant use a vga cable to a (cheaper) lcd monitor on the ps3 as it doesnt yet support vga output, so if you want high definition, you'll have to buy a HDMi hi-def tv.
i really don't think its worth the money just yet, especially if you have an xbox 360, which are much cheaper at the minute . hopefully they release more exclusive games that are worth buying though, then i'd consider one (although that no vga thing is a real pain for me)
it will come down in price pretty soon i reckon, but for now, i'd leave it, it certainly isn't as good as Sony are attempting to tell us.
and that killzone footage unfortunately is not actual footage of the game, Sony had confirmed it was all pre-rendered, and apparantly, the actual footage shown behind closed doors at the Game Developers Conference wasn't as well received. although to be fair, it is only very early in development.
so for me, Xbox 360 and Wii should do for now

Nothing beats PC in terms of gaming. Consoles are for kids.
Ok just joking. Wait for some time. Meanwhile buy an Alienware gaming PC with Quadcore Intel Extreme Processor, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM, and dual 768MB Nvidia GForce 8800 GTX with SLI and 3 Terrabyte harddisk. It is just 6000 euros.

Let's throw gasoline on the flames...
I'm toltally sold on the Wii. I'll be getting one as soon as I get a TV. Simple, fun, great for entertaining (women love them too). What's not to love?
As a bonus, you can download all the fun older games... MarioKart 64 is great!
I say get a Wii, and let PS3 an 360 fight it out for a year or so to see who 'wins'.

There is another big thread on how ghey the wii is.. I haven't played it so I don't know, but its in another class than the Xbox 360 or Playstation. Maybe one that will make it more successful cause you won't see me paying 600 euros for a freaking console!

Thats a fair enough comment! The Wii does seem great and im planning on buying one soon, but the lack of games at the minute is worrying me. there doesnt seem to be too much on the horizon and there are a lot of games that seem very sub-par (graphics wise), because the developers choose to rely on the wii-mote. a lot of the games seem to have the motion of the controller tacked on at the end. seems they are very lazy with the wii games! i really hope to see some games really using the machine in the future though! mario galaxy looks great and for those of you who owned a saturn back in the day, theres talk of a NiGHTs sequel now for Wii, which would be great
The Wii i think is doing wonders for broadening the audience for games, which cant be a bad thing. or can it?

It only costs 250 euros. You can get it and then think about an Xbox 360 or PS3 when the price comes down a bit.
