A bit about me.
I am a English guy and 27 years old. Since January I work near Koblenz. I speak German fairly fluently and have worked in translation for 4 years. I also freelance for bike companies. I am now working at a bike company near Koblenz. I am a cyclist, and it is my passion, so the job is good. My girlie is in London, which isn't good, but workable...
Anyway, I came in January and brought my Renault Clio with me. I am not much of a car person, but it is good car, I have owned it sinse new in 2002, and frankly didn't want to part with it. The plan is/was to register it in Germany and keep using it. I have read the threads on here about that, and I have even bought the new headlights (which I planned to change this week). Insurance is being looked into through work etc. The car was last serviced in December and there are no issues with it. My MOT runs out on Thursday and the Insurance on next Saturday. No problem, I have a garage if it (he ) is off the road.
Anyway... all this was going to be taken car of, except a LKW (lorry or truck depending) drove into it today, making it look rather sorry for itself. I was however extremely impressed. The driver involved came and found me, admitted liablity and had even called the police who took all of our details. I have phoned his insurance company, and he just phoned me now to give me an update.
My insurance company offered to help me out with it. I think this is perhaps a good idea, because if it is a write off, the value assigned to the car needs to be the UK value and not the German value (French cars being worth a lot less here than in the UK, and used cars also not being as expensive as there). The car is now in our warehouse at work. I have a company Touran to drive now. My boss knows a guy at a valuation company, but I am unsure. Should I just get my insurance company involved and let the two companies argue it out? I think I should, that is what I pay them for!
