Hello to everyone!! I'm new to the site but I've read some of the helpful posts given to other people and I hope that someone can help me.
I've recently moved into a house that has very slow dsl speed. I'm currently using a speedport w 700v and I am having problems using my vonage phone. It's just plain not working. There is about a 2-3 second lag between when I say something and when the listener can hear it. And then it's very weak. Surfing the internet, either wireless or connected, is very slow, but I can live with that. I've tried Vonages speedometer test and it shows that my download is 384kbps and my upload anywhere from 65-80 kbps. According to vonage, I need 90 minimum for the phone to work. I know it works because I used it in an apartment in Landstuhl with a different router (which unfortunately died). So T-com sent me the 700v and I also have tried a speedport w 501v with the same results. T-com said that I am at my houses max limit, so no help in upgrading. Is there anything else that may help? Any type of equipment add on's or software upgrades? It seems like since it's my upload speed that is week and not my download, I should be able to do something. I use pjsnet and they said that I'm stuck, basically. Are there any gurus out there with some helpful hints? Thanks

If your line is at max then try Dialing 01095 before your full STD code and talk for 1ct per minute!

Ahem? Which DSL speed do you have in the first place? It can be anything from 384Kbs to 50Mbs...

I have 1000kbps. The provider said that since the house/town can't handle anymore, there's really no reason to upgrade.

Hello, I have been reading around for a few days trying to find instructions on setting up my T com router to get my Vonage to work with out any luck. sad.gif Any help you could provide would be great. I have a speedport w700v router. My vonage router is a VWR-VD. My internet works fine so I thought I could just plug my Vonage router into the speedport but that didnt work. The vonage pwr light flashes saying it is searching for an IP address. I also tried to just plug the vonage into the spliter but I get nothing. I had to put my username and password into the T com router which is why I think I have to go through it. Do I need a static ip address for the vonage router or do I need to open ports for it? I am at my wits end trying to get this to work. Thanks

You have a 50/50 chance of getting Vonage to work, as they only provide hardware based solutions which are not always compatible with German services. The VWR router, which is a re-badged D-link device has a very bad reputation, which doesn't help. (Their Motorola based router is MUCH better)
If your internet is working correctly, then you simply should be able to connect your Vonage router and it should work out of the box (if it has been tampered with reset it to factory configuration), as it gets its' IP address by DHCP from the Telekom router. The only way to check this will require a little more detailed understanding of the V701W which in itself presumes knowledge of German to be able to log into the router, check the Vonage box is getting an IP address, and in turn to log into that to check if it is connecting, and if not, then why not...

Thanks for the quick reply. Your right when you say its a 50/50 chance of getting Vonage to work. Some friends of mine have said they just pluged it in and it worked. Just my luck I guess. I can log into the W700 router with out any problem. My German is really rusty but I can manage getting around in the router, knowing what to do around there is a different story. How do I allow vonage get an IP address? Do I need to put in the W700 address? Thank you.

In theory at least, plugging in the Vonage router to the V700 causes it to automatically request an IP address and other network information (by "DHCP") from the W700V. If you know other people with Vonage working why not conect your Vonage router to their German router and see if it works. If it does then your German router is the problem, if not then the Vonage router.

You know I didnt even think of connecting my router to my friends connection. Great idea. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks
