Short-term kindergarten spots

How to find a place for just a month or so

Our family will be visiting the Ludwig-Maximilians University from 01.06.07 to 30.06.07. Does anyone have any recommendations as to short-term childcare options?

My two children (ages 4 and 2) are outgoing and cheerful native English speakers who are eagerly learning German. I would love for them to be immersed in a German-speaking environment, so I was looking at bilingual daycare centers (as a compromise, given our short length of stay). I had started by writing several of the bilingual kindergartens/kinderkrippen in the Schwabing area, but apparently there are long waiting lists, and the centers are leery of a short term visit.

Does anyone know of any "exchange student" programs for little ones, or does anyone know of a temporary opening -- perhaps from another family going on vacation?

I know this is a long shot, but my children are very eager to make new German friends, and I think it would be a truly memorable experience in their young lives...

Thanks in advance!!

Having the problem of trying to find a long term kindergarten place myself, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to get a short term place! The only solution I could offer is by advertising for a German tagesmutter (daycarer/nanny idea) who would be able to take your children and play and converse with them in German, and they could go and visit places in Munich or just stay at home. Best place for your children to meet and play with other German children is probably the many playgrounds around Munich anyway and the tagesmutter could take them there.

Last Spring, when my son was 2 1/2, I used a place called Campus Kinder. They are near the U3/U6 U-bahn, Universitat stop. The place is on Adalbertstrasse between Turkenstrasse and Nordendstrasse. I don't remember the exact address, as I found it while walking around in the neighborhood. Anyway, Campus Kinder was designed to be a daycare center for students and faculty at LMU, with children. Last Spring, they were just opening, so they didn't have all their spots filled yet, and they were also taking "drop-ins" from non-university people. Basically, I had to call up each morning that I wanted to have my son attend and see if they had any spots open. At the time, I never had a problem getting a spot for him, and he attending about 2 mornings a week, on a regular basis. I don't know how much availability they have now. It's a small, but nice facility. They have one room for toys and meals, another for jumping and running around, and a third for art projects. During nap time, one of the rooms becomes a sleep room. I think it cost 5 Euro per hour.

Correction to my post (above) about Campus Kinder. It is on Amalienstrasse, not Adalbertstrasse. The address is 83a Amalienstrasse.

Thank you so much, AnnieK -- that sounds like the perfect solution! By any chance do you have any contact information or a website for them? I tried googling, but I think "Campus" and "Kinder" are just too common. (My German is a little lacking, too, but I'll try to enlist some German-speaking friends once I've homed in a little better.)

By the way (if I can editorialize) this seems like a really nice usegroup -- everyone has been so helpful! I can't wait to get to Munich!

Another option might be to take the kids to Jogoli's, an indoor playpark -- according to their website you can buy some sort of unlimited pass for a month for 180 Euros. They have some sort of chaperone service, not sure if that's included or what the details are...
