Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger has been elected as the new Pope. He will be known as Pope Benedict XVI. Ratzinger was born in Marktl am Inn, Bavaria. Marktl is 85Km East of Munich, on the border with Austria. In 1977 he briefly became Archbishop of Munich and Freising before being made a Cardinal.
