Every year there are two major races in Munich. The Münchner Stadtlauf takes place on Sunday 26th June. There are three routes, a 5km nordic walk, a 10km fun run, and a 21km half-marathon. Last year 18,000 people of all ages and degrees of fitness took part (including a number of TT readers). The race starts and finishes on Marienplatz with part of the track going through the English Gardens. It's usually good fun. Highly recommended, even if you don't usually take part in such races. So get training! Register online by 17.June. Participation costs €20 (running shirt included).

The second race, the full marathon, is for somewhat more serious runners. It takes place Sunday 9th October. The marathon is the full 42.2km. It starts at the Spiridon-Louis-Ring in Munich's Olympiapark. Registration by 30.Jun2005 costs €48. Registration by 30.Sep.2005 costs €53. Click to register online. I did this last year (21k) and it was loads of fun. Highly recommendable. The run was through the English Garden, great way to see it IMO.

I am going to do the 10km. It should be fun. Btw, for all serious runners, especially Marathoners, this article from the New York Times (14th April edition) cautioning runners to limit their water intake should be a useful read:
