You've probably seen the posters already. They're displayed absolutely everywhere throughout Munich. BUGA is the "Bundesgartenschau", the German national garden festival. It takes place every two years and in 2005 it comes to Munich. You might not be interested in flowers, plants, or even vegetables, but apparently lots of people are. In fact, organisers are expecting 4 million people to attend. So you might as well take note of what the Buga is, how long it lasts, and what there is to see. Then you can quietly forget about it at your leisure. Today is the pre-opening day for journalists. So expect to read a lot more in tomorrow's press. The public opening is 28th April.

What are they going to do with it in the 2 months between now and the date it actually opens?
The Exit
The Buga will not be particularly nice. I'm conviced because I have already visited the area and you can see the pictures on my page:

I'm excited about it! The BUGA and IGA create new parks as they make urban planning visible to the layman. The Westpark was created for the IGA in 1983. I'm really glad Germany's so active on the park front: greenspaces make cities livable.

Until it opens they'll be working on finishing it. I went to a public preview in September and it was really neat. Too bad they don't have a webcam.

This opens tomorrow. I guess they got over the delay caused by the unusually long Winter.
