Autumn leaf clearing

And the noise made by the blowers

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Life in Munich

You know that Autumn has arrived in Munich when you find yourself surrounded by the deafening din of leaf clearing. Given that Germany is supposed to be so environmentally conscious, what's with all these diesel-powered leave blowers that the city council insists on using? Whatever happened to the good old fashioned rake? Watching the leaf clearers at work, a rake would actually do the job quicker. And it'd be cheaper, quieter, cleaner, healthier. ...

Incidently, these workers who sweep the streets clear of nasty evil fallen leaves are the same as those who, in a couple of months time, will be clearing the snow from our streets. And then in Spring they'll be back out to clear up the grit that they used to clear the snow. We're not sure what keeps them busy during the Summer months.

couldn't agree more, these blowers are awful!

I reckon they spend their time cutting the grass in the summer.

Actually I always though this would be a good "pre-retirement" job - I quite fancy my own little grass cutting machine, with optional snow plough and grit spreader for the winter. :-)

The job sounds stress free, and you can see the results of your work immediately!

I'm sure most of the blowers are two-stroke not diesel powered.

A friend of mine once put rocket fuel in his.

He was last seen flying North over Garching.

Still like the obi advert for the leaf blower.

is there anything you won't complain about?

No.

The city council should save money by paving all the parks and putting up parking lots. They should take all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum.

Either that, or sack all the leaf-blowers and replace them with a couple of cyborgs who could do the same job in 25% of the time.

Actually I've never seen these leaf blowers in action until a couple of years ago. I used to know them from US movies only. Most probably the city council thinks they're going to need fewer people to clean the streets from leaves if they're using leaf blowers instead of rakes. And less people = less money.

Wait til the snows fall! Scritch, scratch, scrape beneath your window at 6am. I don't know why they bother. The snow usually melts away by the afternoon anyway.
