I read there was a DropShop in Munich but the article provided no details as to it's location or how it works.

Can someone please tell me? Do they accept all sorts of things? I have a lot to sell/give away and I would really like to get it done in one "swoop" as time is very limitted.

Thank you.
Malcolm Spudbury
Address details in the Toytown Dropshop article are out of date.

In addition to shops at Wörthstr. 40 in Haidhausen and Schleissheimerstr. 77 in Schwabing, the contact page on the official dropshop site says they also have shops at Häberlstraße 5 in Ludwigvorstadt and at MediaMarkt in the Stahlgruber Center at Einsteinstr. 130.

As for what they'll sell, I couldn't see anything specific about that on the site, but I assume they'll try to sell anything for you as long as it's not on Ebay's list of forbidden items.

I'd be happy to put together some auctions for you for cheap, but then I'd have to know your real identity. wink.gif

Thanks for the responses. DropShop works by them selling your things, then paying the money, or will they pay you when you drop things off and therefore before they have sold them on?
interplanetjanet
I'm not sure specifically how the drop shop that advertizes on TT does it, but I think most charge a percentage of the final auction value (with, I'd assume, a default minimum if it goes for very little). Anyway, just saw "Spark" on CNN earlier today, and that's how they described them.

Read the page about how it works. They sell the items and then pay you after the buyer has received them and paid. According to this page you get the money 22 days after they have received it from the buyer.

Thanks again folks.

As a fallback option, are there any other shops in and about Munich that are likely to give cash on the spot for items I wish to sell them?
Showem
Sure - a pawn shop. Google "Leihhaus Muenchen" and pick one that is close to you.
Slider
Thank you Showem. I don't speak any German, can you tell me in English please off a Pawn shop in central Munich?
Showem
No, I can't. I can't look at the addresses, compare it to a map, then inform you of one in central Munich. Certainly can't expect me to do it if you can't be bothered.

Do you have a whole bunch of stuff lying around that you no longer need? Stuff that you may have thought about putting up for sale on Ebay but have never gotten around to dealing with? Well, a new service recently came to Munich.

dropshop.de will sell all your unwanted items via Ebay and Amazon for you! All you have to do is drop it off at the shop (Wörthstr. 40 in Haidhausen, or Schleissheimerstr. 77 in Schwabing) and they'll handle the rest. This could be particularly useful if you're leaving Munich and want to shed all your accumulated belongings quickly. And because dropshop are experts at online auctioning, they can usually sell for a higher price than you'd manage yourself at a flea market or in the newspaper small ads. ...

The system is very simple. You take your unwanted goods to the shop, leave your name and bank details. dropshop will then take care of the online auctioning, uploading of photos, packaging, and sending of items. When a sale is made the money is immediately transferred to your bank account. dropshop takes a small service charge but only if and when the items are sold.

Media items (books, DVD's, etc) are sold on Amazon. dropshop only accepts media items if they are worth 10 Euros or more. Non-media items are sold on Ebay and must be worth at least 50 Euros. dropshop particularly likes electronic products (cameras, cell phones, PDA's, etc.) and silverware, musical instruments, and collectors items etc. For large and expensive items dropshop will even collect from you.

Does it count if I have a pile of stuff that's worth 50 Euros in total? *tzzz* In that case I've got an ungodly number of piles to drop off..

I walked by this place the other day and it was PACKED; seems their business model is doing OK so far.

Intresting business model. What it doesnt say in the advert is the rate of comission that dropshop charge for providing this service? Surely ebay standard comission isnt enough to pay for premises in schwabing and Haidhausen? What name is the stuff sold on at ebay? can you give us some examples of what your pages look like there? A colleague of mine used your service to sell an article of designer clothing - unworn - and not available here. She wasnt really happy with your service. Do they set buy now prices? Is that an option? Have written this in an email as well, lets see if we get a response

Nursey, looks like their rates are here dropshop rates. Your colleague wasn't happy with the service. All of those alleged people on eBay & Amazon were very happy. Can you expand on what the problem was that your colleague encountered?

My neighbour has just used a similar service, but they were more a door to door type outfit. They visited his place while I was round there and took away some hifi equipment and a zebra skin (German taste huh?!).He has set minimum prices for his stuff but as he doesn't know ebay too well he probably will get stung for quite a bit of commision (ebay and the handler).Still, not a bad idea, and a sure sign that people are struggling financially, traditionally the appearance of pawn shops indicated that things were on the downward spiral.I personally find ebay a bit hit and miss, just sold some things for a friend and some horrible stuff did really good whilst the designer clothes only just made a good enough price. I sold a load of 2nd hand games just before christmas and got almost the price that they can be had new from Amazon now, result!

Seems this org has recently raised some significant cash too: Yahoo! News: Web Auctions Start-Up Nets Funding for Expansion

They seem good but state that they give about 75% of the money to you and takes 6 weeks from the end of the auction to receive the funds. Why not sell it yourself and pocket the total amount and get the money through paypal the same day?

After five years of trying, and burning through €90 million in venture capital, dropshop finally gave up this month.

Apparently their concept was good in theory, but it didn't work in practice.

They've closed down completely.

But there are still other Ebay selling shops in the area. There's one on the Tram 15/25 line. I think its between the stops Tiroler Platz and Authariplatz. (Not Sure, Don't travel out that way often)
For those out in the stix of Erding, there is an Ebay shop across from Expert.
pootle
Theres one just opened up on Max Weber Platz too. Right by the 18 tram stop (towards town)

shame. they did a really great job of selling my girlfriends record decks - they got way over the odds for them and were v. helpful to deal with.

If anyone finds out the name of the new one that just opened, or any other business doing the same kind of thing, could you please post the name of it? I've had no luck googling so far... Thank you!!
