Today, Wednesday 12 May 2004, from 5pm there will be a demonstration in front of the European Patent Office in Munich, Erhardtstrasse 27, Isarvorstadt (see map). This demo is to protest against repeated attempts by the EU to legalize software patents. Why are US-style software patents a bad thing? Because they stifle innovation. And why is stifled innovation bad? Because it slows the development of technology which could make everyone's life easier. Humankind has come a long way since Stig sat in his cave rubbing two sticks together trying to start a fire. Why legislate against further development? Bob, that's a very opinionated piece and, in my opinion, total bollocks.
The EU has nothing to do with the EPO - the two organisations are entirely separate so it would be nice if the arguments presented had a remotely factual basis eh?

Oh goody! A reaction at last. My articles don't usually get any comments. I'll have to write some more "opinionated bollocks" in future.
