Speed dating comes to Munich

Speed dating is a trend which has swept across North America and Europe over the past two or three years. At a speed date event you get to meet 20 to 30 members of the opposite sex for 5 minutes each. It only takes a minute to judge whether you have met someone you like. When that happens you tick the corresponding name on your list. At the end of the evening all mutual matches are put in touch via e-mail. The rest is up to you! There are numerous speed dating organisations in Munich. For example FastDating and Blind Date Dinner. And now, for the first time ever in Munich, "Sparks UK" are bringing you an all English speaking Speed Dating evening. It will take place next week, Tuesday 25th May 2004 at one of Munich's newest bars: Merge Bar, near Goetheplatz.

I think this is a great idea! Even if you don't meet your love of you life you will meet people with intrest close to your own.

Update: this event was a complete flop. Less than twenty people registered, and of those one was the organiser and two were journalists who came to document the event. Almost all the girls had to be given free tickets and cajoled into attending.

Even then, when it came to the actual event, most people knew each other already.

The event was an interesting experiment. But in hindsight it is now clear that the English-speaking singles scene in Munich is so small that it can't support such events.

There won't be another event like this organised via TT, not for a long while.

Single English-speakers wanting to meet other single English-speakers are far better off just hitting one of the few Irish pubs on a Friday or Saturday night.
