"Toothing" is a new craze where strangers on trains, buses, in bars and even supermarkets hook up for illicit meetings using anonymous messages sent via the latest in wireless phone technology. The name "Toothing" is a derivation of the wireless technology name "BlueTooth"... When done in a friendly manner the activity is called "Bluejacking", see: www.bluejackq.com. It's just a bit of harmless fun, making strange messages appear on people's mobiles. Best place I found in Munich was Sausalitos; I found up to 7 other devices in the bar there! Range is anything up to 30m or so depending on the class of Bluetooth module you have in your mobile/PDA... You could try it on the S- or U-Bahn also. No cellphone signal is required as the communication is direct, module to module.
