Hi,

Does anyone know where, in Munich, I could possibly get my Ipod repaired.
I have managed to totally destroy the LCD display, whilst doing a little bit of drunken hedge surfing sad.gif

There's an Apple shop on Barer Str, north of Schelling a bit, on the west side of the street.

If the display is cracked that means that it will most likely have to go back to Apple for repair.

Contact Gravis - http://www.gravis.de - or stop in at their Sedlinger Tor shop to see if they can handle an iPod repair like this. Most likely they will not be able to do the repair themselves, but since they are an authorized Apple center, they can most likely coordinate a repair with Apple Europe for you.

Otherwise, you will need to send it back to Apple directly. Hope you have an AppleCare warranty on it, because repairs these days cost almost as much as a new one.

Hi

I bought an iPod back in UK but it has now died. It refuses to start up showing just an apple logo for a bit while it whirls and clicks, then shows a folder with an exlamation mark before finally giving up the ghost completely.
Its covered under the UK 12 month warranty.

Does this apply in Germany? How do i get it fixed here?

Cheers

Call the I-Pod service - ull find it on the apple page - they'll tell you of the apple dealers in Munich , bring it back together with receipt, detail your issues and almost certainly you'll get a new iPod within a week ... happened to me 2 weeks ago.

thanks parnell
problem is the receipt is in UK
there is a serial number checker on the apple page whic says that my purchase date was 8th april 2005 (clearly within 12 months)
would that be enough?
if it happened 2 weeks ago... where are the apple dealers in munich?

I don't know if this will help, but mine did that once after I went jogging with it. I did the reboot, or whatever you call it... pushing the upper button and the bottom button at the same time for four seconds (until it turns off). Then when I restarted it, it was fine. But if you want to take advantage of the warranty good luck, apple is usually good about these things. You might try the apple store at Sendlinger Tor

There's an apple authorized repair shop called Salespoint Computerhaus GDD at Barerstraße 67. They did warranty repairs on my ibook, the only hassle being that it wasn't repaired the first time and I had to bring it back a second. Aside from that, my computer is just dandy.

Some other folks were raving about another authorized shop, so do a search of TT, and you'll find it. Whatever you do, don't bring it to Gravis. They suck. When I went to them, they were ridiculous, and I've heard others complain as well.

Edit: You don't need the original receipt at Salespoint. Just ring Apple and open a case file, and you can give the number to the folks at Salespoint. If you want to go elsewhere, you can order a copy of your receipt from Apple, but if they're anything like the one in the US, they'll only email it to a UK address.

Has anyone tried any of these online repair shops for ipods, like Modpod.de? I've a 4-year old 15gb Dock version that none of the shops mentioned can help me with, but these guys seem to cover it. Any experience with them or other online services?

I've sent my broken mini to podmod.de-
unfortunately the repair was been too expensive (hard disk), so I let them send it back. they've been very helpful, answering also on weekends and in the evening. - I ended up selling the broken ipod privately (still got 20 Euro) and bought a new nano in the states instead.

How expensive was the expensive part? I've got the folder with exclamation mark icon coming up after the apple logo when I turn it on. Could be anything wrong with it from controller failure to me installing Linux on it. Well I wanted to be able to play Doom on an ipod so...
If the repair costs outweigh the potential profit on selling it, I may have to just flog it for near nowt, specially if I can get an 8gb SD card for the phone which pretty much renders the ipod useless for me.

as far as I remember it was round 110 Euro (exchange of harddisk 4 GB), (I've deleted the correspondance), and I sold the old one for 20 Euro. I had the "sad ipod" symbol on it. did you try the ipod troubleshooting on apple.com?
anyhow, you can always send it in to podmod, if you decide NOT to get it repaired, you only pay the shipping costs for sending it back, alternatively you can sell it to them (but they offered only 10 Euro).

OK, I admit that it is a long shot but I am wondering if my daughter's Ipod Nano can be repaired. It has just completed a tour of the inside of the washing machine. I left it somewhere warm-ish, and there are no longer signs of condensation on the inside. However, pressing buttons just gets the Apple logo, followed by a sad looking Ipod with an exclamation mark. At the bottom is the web address for Apple support.

I suspect that the Ipod is now stuck in an 'I want to be serviced' loop within the software, and will not tell me even if it now feels better. Is there a way to reset it? I tried the top and bottom buttons together, but it just ignored me.

Technically, it is still within the warranty period, but I have not even considered trying to blag my way through this, as it must be obvious that it has been submerged. Mind, I bet the insides are the cleanest that Apple will have seen.

I will look into repairs, although they could prove to be as expensive as buying new.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thats a tough one Nick, most ipod problems make them disposable these days. Basically it costs more to fix them then buying a new one.
Especially in your case where you are really not sure on whats wrong, could be something small could be something huge.

Depending on your technical ability you can try and open it up and remove the battery, and see if that resets it(or even just run the battery down to dead and try starting it)
Take a look around on the net and see if you can find the hard and soft resets for the nano. I have only played with the full versions and the mini, so don't know if that theory holds for the nano's.
Good luck : )
