i have to agree there. last time i saw him on t.v. he was extremely pudgy, not a very sportly chap. just like his pa.

a few weeks back i actually sat down and watched a special about the T&Taxis family. aside from being from poor royalty (everyone seems to think her brother is a well-known journalist, but i cannot recall his name and wrote a tragic book about it some years back), Mariae Gloria Ferdinanda Joachima Josefine Wilhelmine Huberta, Princess of Thurn and Taxis did a Anna Nicole and married the guy who was a much sought after bachelor, already in his late 50's or early 60's. apparently she loved him. she was definitely a wild one. and as katrina wrote, had a helluva time to manage his poorly-managed estate after he died. apparently she sold off quite some gems in their family.

but what pisses me off the most is - he is the sole heir? he does have 2 older sisters. f*cking monarchy.

I'm not informed about the family tree, but one of the Thurn und Taxises is American, btw. I met her once. She lives in Munich and also has a house in Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard or somewhere, and met her husband when they were in school in London. I think she also said she has quite a few grown kids. Her husband must be a lawyer or a judge or something, because after I talked to her, she was heading down to the Justizpalast to meet him after work.

I didn't quiz her about the noble background of her husband's family, so I'm not sure where she fits in. She's a very nice lady. It amuses me to imagine an American with such a last name.
