Hi

Im thinking about paying for a trip for my girlfriend to come over from the 20 march til 27 March so she can attend my Sisters Wedding. Any one have any tips on the best Airline for this time of year and any Websights in English that are German based companies? Best so far is 1220 Euro inc all taxes.

(when I say Pay I really mean borrow money from my family and give my family a IOU)

Cheers

Hi,

Thai Airways fly direct through Bangkok and are reasonably well-priced.
Singaporeair are also very good but you have to fly to Frankfurt first. I managed to get a fare for 1088Euro incl. tax with them but it's for May.
You can actually choose English on their website to book your ticket. I think the site is www.singaporeair.com.

Good luck

When my husband and I were living in Munich, we found that the cheapest way to go was with an around the world ticket. Of course, that also made it nice to be able to visit my family in California on the way to visit his in Melbourne. It would probably be cheaper to buy her ticket in Australia. Have her check the rates through STA.

Here was a discussion about fights down under: Airlines for flights to Australia

Have a search for old threads as we done this a few times.

The conclusion was I think that Emirates were best and Thai a very good second.

I wouldn't bother with high street travel agents to be honest, they don't deserve the money.
Last time we went to Australia we did all the research ourselves and found the dates, flights, fares etc.

I went into three Munich travel agents and offered them immediate €5000 worth of business for no more work than issuing the tickets.

One claimed that the timetables weren't out yet for that timeframe.
One refused to sell tickets for flights unless I booked hotels and rental cars with them as well.
One could only offer a fare that was € 300 higher per person. dry.gif

Thanks for replys.

Im actually in Sydney now (forgot to mention) til my sisters wedding is over. Having a look at Tahi and Emirettes now.

Can you buy a return ticket from Munich to Sydney buying from Australia (stupid question but never tried beofre). On the web sights you always have to put Australian Cities as the Departure when going via the web.

I've been looking at flights from MUC to SYD for the end of March. Emirates is the cheapest I have found. Approx. 1100 euros.
Just go to their website.

Go Here Plug in your flight dates, and you will get a list of all poss. carriers and connections.
The you can check out prices at the carriers website.

you were unlucky. not all travel agents are lazy and not bothered. instead of spending a fortune on a computer website (for 2 separate trips), i opted to go the travel shop and i feel that considering that only get a little commission for flights etc, i was treated very well and the prices were much better than what i found online.

1085€ is a good fare if it includes all taxes. We're going on the 31st of March, and I looked around about 8 months ago for the best price and we got Emirates for exactly 1000€ all in. So if you've booked so close and got 1085€ you've done well.

You were just lucky you had your trusty Reiseleiterin to sort you out!

Thai airways were very good (top tip: sit near business class and you'll get all their leftover cognac), i flew Malayair once and they were good - just don't go the dreaded BA...

Would we like lots of leftover drinks from business class? Like doh!

But I was just talking last night about all those German sex tourists with mullets and moustaches who travelled on Thai in their wife-beater vests! ph34r.gif

Well I fianlly got her ticket today. After being stuffed around. As I bought the ticket on behalf of my girlfriend who does not have a credit card it got frustrating and annoying. As I could not finish the transaction online last night as you can only pay online if you are a person travelling on the flight, I went to rebook today by phone, After being mucked around for 1 hour by Indian accented dim witted people who told me I the cheapest ticket is now 1200 euro and I had to pay in person in Germany, I finally got put thru to a Aussie Accented girl who within 2 minutes gave me the fair I was quoted the day before and told me it was not a problem to pay cash in person at the Sydney office.

All in all Im happy with most of the service but will be getting my girlfriend a credit card asap. An Indian accent can be frustrating after a hour of being told "all you have to do sir is pay the money in person in Germany at the new rate of 1200 euro"
