Hello, I recently moved to Düsseldorf and I'm looking for an intensive german course. I got already in contact with volkshochschule@duesseldorf, but the only courses they have start either in January or in September. Can anyone help on this?
Thanks

Hello Fara,
I signed up for VHS Düsseldorf's DaF-KDS I, but now I wish I had signed up for more. You can always turn to the private schools like
GermaService . They're a little more expensive, but they're conveniently located about a block from the Hauptbahnhof and you might just be able to squeak into some of their courses beginning in March.
There's also
ASG-Bildungsforum. But you'll have the same scheduling problem with them as with the VHS.
If you fluency level is high enough, you can enroll in non-language related courses. I've signed up for the VHS's "Einführung in die Tabellenkalkulation Excel " and "Matrizenrechnung". These courses really give your German language abilities a workout, and you can learn somthing new or re-learn something in German.
Good Luck,
Rich

Hi again Fara,
In case you don't know, the VHS allows you to sign up and addend courses part way through. I missed
one or more classes in a couple of the courses I sighed up for and noone complained. Also, I found
out that if you miss more than half the classes, you can get the remaining classes for half price.
Cheers,
Rich

Hello,
thanks to both of you for your reply. I contacted VHS, but they already started their classes in January, and as I'm an absolute beginner I need to start a class from the beginning. As I couldn't find any evening class, I will start private lessons at IIK (http://www.iik-duesseldorf.de/), together with my wife.
Cheers

Hi Fara, I take my lessons at IIK in Duesseldorf. I researched the schools and found that IIK was the best value for the money, had the smallest classes, and the teachers are fantastic. You will love it!!

Good to hear that IIK are recommended - a friend of mine asked me if I had heard of them. They have a summer school class which she will attend. It seems to be reasonable - € 445 for 100 hours of teaching, 10-18 people per class.
Does anyone know what size the classes generally are? Also, are all of the students at a similar level?

I want to start German evening classes. I've looked at the Goethe institute and they only seem to have evening classes for advanced speakers and I'm not quite there yet. The only other option I've seen is the Volkhochschule - has anybody attended lessons through them? Were they any good? Does anybody know of any other options?

I moved here last september, same problem, no evening class for beginners, I have a private teacher now, my company pays for it

Everybody I know have tried the Volkhochshule, as far as I know they were all in the evenings after work in all levels. Most people leave before the course finishes though, don't know why!

Is someone interested in a "Sprachtandem" (Don't know how to call it in English. "Speech tandem"???) I'm a German girl and I would like to improve my English. In return, I can help you to learn and to improve your German.

P.S.: Has anybody tried "Sprachcaffe"?

Hi,
Replying to Nemi's post ... I know it was back in April, but we have just moved to Düsseldorf, and I would be interested in Sprachetandem. I am a "housewife". My email address is jellyott@gmail.com
