I can certainly recommend a rugby weekend visit to Rome. I went last year and had a great time. Scotland played some shocking rugby but the Italians (players and fans) were all crying after the game because they won. It was a really good atmosphere. The best bit though was when we got back to the city centre and caught the end of the IrelandvEngland game. That manged to cheer up all of the Scottish fans !!!

Would be intrested in hearing any travel tips? how did you get down there? Have looked on map24 and it reckons on it being a 9 hour drive from munich?

flights for that weekend are around on lufthansa for around 120 euros at the moment...

Have to say I fancy France to retain from that ... have a full month to recover from the Irish game for England...although they are playing England in Twickenham.
Not a lot of hope for us tho...

I flew into Rome from Düsseldorf as I moved up here in January. My pals flew in from Munich and I think they paid about 120euros each for the flights. Unfortunately can't tell you much about accommodation as we stayed in the NATO officers club.
We went to the stadium early on the Saturday morning and joined a large queue to get tickets. It turned into a bit of a bun fight as the touts kept forcing their way into the front of the queue, but we got tickets eventually.
The Italians have quite a good set up as they turn a car park at the front of the stadium into one giant bier tent and the atmosphere was really good before the game. I also really enjoyed it as the stadium is tiny compared to Murrayfield or the Millennium Stadium.
Great weekend, I can highly recommend it.
