Changing a flight reservation

Comparisons between airlines' methods of rebooking

I just had to change a Lufthansa flight and was surprised to find that, though it was booked on the internet, it could only be changed by ringing a call centre at 12c/minute. With EasyJet you can alter your internet-booked flights via the internet (or telephone). This might be due to Lufthansa's complex booking classes (V, W etc) and the call centre woman was herself confused. First she said I could re-book for a €25 fee, then she said it was impossible within 28 days of flying, then she said it was OK for a €50 fee.

So for the future use of people who are booking a flight knowing that they might have to change it, it would be handy to have a comparison of whether/how you can change your flight for different airlines. It is of course possible to change your flight at the airport office for every airline. Other options are:

EasyJet: internet £17-50 / €26 or telephone £20 / €30
Lufthansa: telephone only. Possibility to change & fee depends on booking class?

If you have details for other airlines please post below.

Let me guess, that 12c a minute number can only be called inside Germany

Deutsche BA: Only by telephone, costs €25, but at 99cents a minute! mad.gif

Lufthansa also stink because you can't book a flight for someone else, e.g. your kids, over the internet, you have to call them up, which means they charge you more for booking the flight, plus they make a €10 ticket charge, no matter how you book it, even though you don't actually get a ticket! They don't deserve any business!

@ Allershausen: I book flights for my boss with Lufthansa on the internet all the time. What is their reason for making you call?

The person whose name appears on the credit card has to be one of the passengers. Presumably you use your bosses credit card, or maybe it works with a company card, not sure about that. I've complained to them, but they say it is to guard against credit card fraud. It stops you using a stolen credit card, they say, but no other airline seems to worry about this.

You can avoid the €10 "Ticket Service Charge" by booking on the lufthansa.co.uk site, providing you have a UK billing address. Bizarrely, they only charge it on bookings on their German site.
