I agree with Oli with regard to the time...7.30 is so amenable I may even become a regular to this event smile.gif ...and the curry last week (New Delhi) was great...shame about the mouse right at the end of the evening! It did provide some entertainment though laugh.gif !
Winegirl
So where are we going this week?
Owain Glyndwr
anywhere where you can get a nice Tandoori Mouse biggrin.gif
false
As Winegirl suggested lets do it in alphabetical order.

So
  1. Kashmir , as suggested by Owain Glyndwr (this week)
  2. Radha , as suggested by Topsy (next week)
  3. Sarovar, as suggested by Winegirl (week after next )
  4. Swagat, as suggested by oli2000 & Owain Glyndwr (next next week or new years)
Other suggestions can be added to the queue list for the future Adventures of Curry.

Anyone book the Kashmir then? For Wednesday 1st Dec, 10-15 folks @ 7:30pm? Under the name Toytown.

@Roots: if you want to change this when you come back that that's cool.

I won't be able to make it this week at all at all.

again, new/hungry people are welcome to sign up

Having been to Kashmir with TT once before and finding it bad enough to slag it off on this forum, I think it only fair that I give it a chance to redeem itself
*scratches head and wonders if that makes sense*
I jsut won't expect free popadoms beforehand...

Curry @ Kashmir

A map has been uploaded for the people with a bad sense of direction (like me). Sorry about the weird color of the map, my computer is acting a tad bit weird.

Alternative Night of Curry #4

(Map from hot-maps.de, with permission)

Time : 7:30pm this Wednesday.
Location: somewhere near the red circle.

11 people already signed up ! Sign up here

I couldn't find a way to "un" sign up... turns out the company party is tomorrow (nice that somehow I wasn't on the email list... hmmmm).

Anyway it's bummer 'cause I had a cute friend signed up to come!! F F F F!
Jeeves
There's a button "un-reserve". That's the way.
Ravski
Just registered to come, especially when its staggering distance from my place too. smile.gif.
anabi
Yeah... I guess I could scroll down... my brain is simply in total neutral today! I think cutting out of work early and starting some drinkin' should solve that
false
Booked under the name 'Toytown', two tables for 15 people for 7:30pm. I might pop along for a drink after my work stammtisch, but I won't be at the meal.

10.5 People registered now, any other takers ?
Winegirl
We need to fix our title. It says 8pm but dinners are at 7:30pm.
Ravski
Hi All,

I will not stay to long as I have to attend another departmental event.
oli2000
Screwed up curry night sad.gif

The waiter asked clumsily why we reserved a table for 15 people if only 7 show up, Grinner reacted arrogantly, Owain agreed w/ him and the situation escalated stupidly, and that was that: 5 people left the place, and I was left having my curry with Ravski, on a table set for 15 people.

We had already established earlier that Kashmir is unfit for a TT Curry night, nonetheless Owain suggested it again for tonight unsure.gif

Food was OK, but the place is a bit too German, IMHO, in terms of service and food.
roots
Kashmir was a bad choice I guess. I mentioned it a couple times before that I myself didn't like that place.

Sorry that you guys had a bad night.

Well, I will be back in town for next curry night so all will be well tongue.gif
Grinner
@ oli2000

at the risk of loosing a friend and cotraveining a TT term or condition...

You are a wanker!

It was not arogance, its called speaking your mind.. the owner was bang out of order and I related it to him..

So, you dont like what I said... steer clear of me..

We went back to last weeks curry mouse and got a welcome greeting, an appology and,... more to the point an admission about the Mouse, will post the picture tomorrow..

SO... climb back under your stone... chill and try to think as a native English speaker, and not the German that you claim to be...

Wanna live in our world? listen and learn.

BTW... arrogance comes with succsess! laugh.gif
oli2000
Thanks Grinner, you've just classified yourself more accurately than anybody else could have done. Keep it up!
Winegirl
I'm the last to be rude to waiters or any kind of service staff, but that guy was totally out of order. I planned to start a thread today titled Kashmir-Black-listed Indian Restaruant but you beat me by posting here. Grinner may have been the first to respond and the loudest but he was saying what the rest of us were thinking. I left with them because I didn't like the way the waiter treated us and didn't care to give him my business after that. On top of that he was not in the slightest bit friendly before the incident. For those not there, the place was empty. We spent over $100 at the second place we went (moose restaruant) including the really good tip we left the waiter/owner. If Kashmir is going to be rude there are places who appreciate our business.

Oh and yes the owner said he saw the mouse last week, was very apologetic, and told us the problem has been taken care of.

On a final, positive note, the moose indian place is really great! I liked it much better than Sitar for both food and service.
xargon
Damn! Looks like I missed a great party! sad.gif

Sad I missed out on this one!!

My thoughts on the alternative curry night. I think its a great idea that you all do different places each week. I wouldnt mind seeing a 10 week update on all the places you've been to. By the looks of it, its gonna take some beating to get worse than the Kashmir.

BTW - Where did the Curry Protesters go to eat then?
Showem
Moose Tikka Masala! Moose Korma! Yum, where is it? wink.gif
Jeeves
The waiter was grumpy all evening - which is not a crime - but after about an hour, as we were ready to order, came over as if he was spoiling for a fight. Way out of order. In my opinion Grinner was not being arrogant, just not particularly diplomatic, but then that's our mate Grinner wink.gif

People are always posting "if you don't like the service then do something about it". Well we did.

As I posted previously, my first experience at Kashmir was not positive, but I'd give them a second chance. They will not be getting a third.

@ 3 Lions We went to Neu Delhi (same place as last week apparently). Good food, good atmosphere, great banter with the waiter (in order of diminishing importance).

as i said to you and everyone else at the table: i had simply forgotten that Kashmir was the place we had already had a bad experience at. Like i said: i had mixed Kashmir up with another place.

but obviously you weren't listening or have chose to interpret last nights events differently to everyone else.
3 Lions
Though I wasnt there, Jeeves had it right 'Every place deserves a 2nd chance'

I've seen this place load of times but never been in. Though doubt I will bother now.
roots
ok so kashmir is blacklisted.

Where are we going next week? radha?

Never been to that place so I am will willing to try.
false
Sorry about the mixup eveyone. I guess it was partly my fault, as I rang and booked it for 15 people, I was erring on the side of caution and making sure we got a proper table. Sorry for the mixup. I couldn't make it as my work stammtisch was on sad.gif

@roots: Radha is the place we are going next week. Do you want to book with your Indian Charm.

@everyone : suggestions for the coming weeks, next year ?
Winegirl
@false: not to be a smart-ass, but I think you posted a schedule on the first page of this thread that covers the next 4 outings tongue.gif

@roots: Radha is the place we are going next week. Do you want to book with your Indian Charm.

I am arriving next wednesday so it might be a bit late for reservation. You or anyone else could book the table.
Topsy
well, I hope you guys like Radha - I won't be able to go sad.gif
say hi to the nice owner from me smile.gif
false
@roots : I will book.
@winegirl : no worries, it was just to save confusion for poor old roots.
@topsy: pity you can't come to the place you suggested.

@all : suggestions.

I would like to add "Neu Delhi" to maybe position 10 on the list again, i.e. some time in February.
Also a visit to Ganga would be nice too.

Radha it is then (don't forget the sign up page.)
Topsy
@ false - well, when I suggested it, I didn't know you'd be going there next week. I booked my flight home yonks ago.
But I'm sure you guys will have a fab time.
I'd thoroughly recommend popping in to Wassermann for a couple of cocktails to round the evening off. That can get a little dangerous, though wink.gif
Jeeves
Ganga was the venue for the Forget Bush Curry Night, henceforth to be known as Alternative Curry Night Number Zero. Which doesn't mean I would object to going there again so soon (as if I had any other concrete suggestion)
Owain Glyndwr
@false: Neu Dehli def deserves another visit for the people who did not go last night. I am really really glad we gave the place a second chance. Februar yis also a good time, cos we then have a few weeks first to try other places.
Jeeves
Am I going blind or has the Original Curry Night really disappeared?
Winegirl
@ Jeeves: I was about to comment on our title change too! How did we drop the name "Alternative?" Anybody know what happenned?
3 Lions
This is what happens when you post a 'Same' event on the 'Same' night.

Winegirl
ohmy.gif We didn't mean to we just wanted to try new curry places...
3 Lions
I know, I'm only kidding! wink.gif

Though I guess that AM will as usual turn up at Sitar after his German classes at 9pm, so peeps who want to carry on tradition should just turn up then.
Jeeves
Well I wouldn't see it as an us-and-them situation. Two weeks ago I was at the Sitar and there were a dozen of us, hardly the sign of a struggling institution. So I'm wondering why the event suddenly seems to have been censored.
jml
Damn I was thinking about original curry for next week. You alternative bastards ruined the best thing going in my hood. Im only kidding. Kinda. The bastards part still stands, but only because I like you guys. So does the best thing in my hood part, only because thats true. Nothing good ever happens in Lehel. Not the you ruined it part, because that would just be plain sour grapes. Though I think you did. Ruin it that is. Or maybe @AM et all washed their hands of the lot and turned it into an exclusive members only thing. In which case if Members Only Jackets come with it then I definitely want to come too please.

Anyway, you event hijacking bastards cant you at least alternate it every now and then so its not always curry? Yes, yes I know never stand between a man and his curry but really would a steak on Wednesday night kill you. I'll bring you some curry ketchup. Now no one get their respective panties in a wad cause I'm mostly taking a piss. I know, I know if I want something else to eat/gotta place to try I should post it up myself. wink.gif

*J-where the hell is that thread on steakhouses-ML*
pootle
but you got every other night of the week to eat steak... wink.gif

Shame the sitar thread has gone. Guess I will still go there on a wednesday when I have the chance - will post on here when I do

Yes, but out of the other four curry nights since the alternative started up, only five people (other than me) signed up for the original - and of those, two changed their mind and went to the alternative night instead anyway.

The original curry night only became an "official" event because more and more people wanted to come, and we became too many to manage properly. Thus Editor Bob created the sign-up page so that we could better deal with such large groups.

However with the current turnout (and someone else running pretty much the same event on the same day) there's no longer the need for such a setup, so I've decided to revert the whole thing back to the way it used to be run - as an unofficial group of friends going for a curry on a Wednesday night.

QUOTE

Usually, but not always; running it as an unofficial event gives me greater flexibility in terms of time and location. For example, next Wednesday we're going to visit a different restaurant - truely excellent food, but I'm not sure if they could handle a large group, some of whom might not even have signed up, nor would I want to risk leaving the booking until 5pm the same day. It was just too much hassle to do as an open event.
Jeeves
Gotcha wink.gif
MadAxeMurderer
I went along to the original last night, and it was basicaly Acquatic, his girlfriend, and Nicolas the French bloke.

So I was the only TT signup. Apparently the week before there were no TT people with acquatic.

I tried to talk him out of shutting it down, and thought it was a reasonable suggestion that the original, and alternative, alternate every second week.

I know that roots has stated he did not want to destroy the original curry evening, but for better or worse that seems to have happenned.

Personally I like both having the Sitar as a regular, but also wanted to try other resteraunts.

I really think it was a disaster to run the alternative on the same night. There was no compelling reason to have it the same night, just 100 minor reasons.

A has German class, B wants to go to the pub quiz, C wants Tuesday drinks. Of course as time goes by, a lot of the people who absolutely could not come for a curry any night but Wednesday will probably turn up less & less anyway.

I've been told again, and again that Acquatic said "sure, same night is fine". I don't know if he said that once, or was misinterpereted but he's said the opposite 15 times.
AquaticMeringue
Not much more to add, other than to clarify this point:

QUOTE (MadAxeMurderer @ Dec 2 2004, 05:48 PM)

I didn't. What I said was that I don't mind other people organising other curry nights - indeed that it might even be a good idea. However I very specifically and repeatedly pointed out why it wouldn't work to have both on the same night as soon as I realised that the alternative would run on a Wednesday (before then I'd simply assumed that "alternative curry night" referred to a curry on an alternative night).

Anyone is free to run any events they like, but I don't appreciate being misquoted.
Grinner
well I do feel guilty about the way things have panned out, but I also thought that it would be better on a different night..or was it Sunday lunch time that I thought could do with a little spicing up!

I also like to move about a little, every now and then..

@ AM.

I suppose emulation is a form of flattery smile.gif

I will be at the Sitar next week alone or not...Just fancy one of their chilli nans.

Ravski
Excuse the late response, I had the day off yesterday.

I wont prolong the Kashmir situation again but I will just wanted add my bit to it. After you guys went he was still at it a bit. smile.gif

I did mention about the fact that the situation could have been handled a bit more diplomatically as he is running a business and sometimes you get more or less people coming. Its provision for bad debt.

If he was that concerned about losing regular customers then he should introduce a system of taking a number to confirm the number of people coming. He did not do so, what do you expect. How long has he been running the business, please.

He said he was more than happy to do without some off us ever again. Well at least he was direct.

I hung around as I needed to go early to another event as I previouls posted otherwise I would have joined the rest.

I myself will never go there again. I did not get the indian vibe and custom from the place. wink.gif
Winegirl
I am really sorry about the other night too. But even if the alternative night was on a different night, I would have stop going to Sitar because of it. I just don't eat curry twice a week. Even going every week is a lot for me but I like the evening. We discussed rotating the original curry night but that was shot down so we made one on the night all of us already had set aside for curry. After 3 weeks in a row, I wanted a new restaruant to compare Sitar to. So far I found one a lot beter and one a lot worse but the interest of trying something new is what keeps me excited about the night.
Jeeves
@Ravski Thanks for adding your bit. I can believe that he is just as happy never to see us again. He wasn't particularly happy to see us in the first place. You were conversing with him in Hindi (?) at some stage so it's interesting to hear the feedback.

Btw Glad to hear that you and Oli didn't get poisoned wink.gif

That is exactly what my gf told me and thats when we decided never to go back. Are you guys talking about the tall guy with beard? He waited on us when we went there and he seemed really cold.

Anyway we gonna permanently ban Kashmir. We have so many other choices and good ones too.
