For those who are interested: The Kashmir does exceptionally fine nan breads - probably the best I've tasted in Munich. The last time I went there their vindaloo was quite mild though, but I'm sure we can work our way around that this time smile.gif
Jeeves
Mmmm nan bread. Who needs or even wants rice.
Is this one of those restaurants that insist on giving you rice whether you want it or not?
Malcolm Spudbury
Yes, you get the rice with the meal. I think this is the case with most indian restaurants in Munich.

You don't have to eat it.
AquaticMeringue
Yes you do! If you try to refuse, they pin you to your seat and force it down your throat. Better just to accept it gracefully.
Jeeves
No I'm a big boy now and nobody makes me eat my veggies any more.

It just struck me that most Indian restaurants here assume that you want it, as opposed to the UK where they don't. On the down side, if you want it over there then you have to pay for it, whereas here it's usually included in the price of the main course.
Aisling
Ok..I'd like to come along to tomorrow night's Curry Night but the reservation link seems to be for 08/09 Curry Night. Where should I put my name down? It'll be me + 2 guests for tomorrow night. huh.gif
Jeeves
Um yes you're right. I just put my name down blindly without even checking the date ph34r.gif
I wouldn't worry about that, it'll be alright on the night.
pablo
anyone willing to give idiot proof directions from Ostbahnhof ?
Malcolm Spudbury
The registration is for the coming wednesday, 1st September, so just add your name on there regardless of the date that's shown. It looks like there's a problem with the registration page.

As for directions, is the map not enough? I've added instructions aswell anyway...
Malcolm Spudbury
I don't think we'll be taking the Curry Night back to Kashmir after last night...

People who went, feel free to add your comments on the Kashmir review page.
Jeeves
Will do.
I think all of us were disappointed last night (without wanting to put words into other peoples' mouths, let alone nan bread). A lot of the factors could be put down to the fact that they were unable to cope with 16 people arriving at once, but not having been before in a smaller group it's hard to say what difference that did make.
oli2000
Spot on, they had difficulty coping with the 15+ people we were. No excuse for that, since I believe we reserved for such a group. The place is within walking distance from me so I go there once in a while, and typically rather like it. I find it a little overpriced and the portions a bit small, though the service and quality of the food has always been very good.
Malcolm Spudbury
Personally I thought the food was OK - the only complaint I have is that the service was incredibly slow. Although the nan bread was excellent, it was pretty useless getting it after the meal was finished...
Grinner
I agree with Spudz..

Alright but shite service.

Poor bloke.

G
Jeeves
Yeah I felt sorry for the bloke. He kept smiling to the end. Not a lot he could do if there was a bottleneck in the kitchen.
AquaticMeringue
Spudbury and I had visited the place before, but with a much smaller group. We checked it out as best we could, but unfortunately how well they're able to cope with large groups isn't something we can find out until we've actually been there with a large group.

Many people seem to want to try out different places from time to time, but I'm afraid the risk associated with that is that sometimes the results will be disappointing.

Next week we'll be back at the Sitar though, so you know what to expect smile.gif
Jeeves
@ AM No reflection on you or Spudbury. Just as objective assessment as I could give. And until you've tried things out you don't know. Slife.
Malcolm Spudbury
I know. Still felt a bit bad though since some people were at curry night for the first time and ended up having a meal that wasn't very good...
Editor Bob
At time of writing, the TT curry night is responsible for:

418 curries eaten

and

€6,270 spent on curries

...this is assuming an average curry costs €12 and is washed down by a single €3 beer (a conservative estimate).

The running totals for these figures are to be found on the: TT Currynight Reservation Page
Gen
Bob why are you doing scripts like that on a Saturday night? Too much nightlife recently? wink.gif
Editor Bob
Am waiting for the girlfriend to finish her hair and nails before we go out. Could probably knock off another couple of scripts in the meantime. Any requests?
Malcolm Spudbury

If the weather is like today tomorrow, maybe you could request the outdoor seeting again ? (for some reason I love eating/drinking/pissing outdoors).

Anymore takers for some CURRY ph34r.gif ?
roots
Hello all, back in town. Hopefully I will join tomorrow. How about Sangeet in odeonsplatz? Anybody up for that? smile.gif
Graham
nope. didn't like it as much as our usual.
AquaticMeringue
Next week, perhaps - it's a bit short notice to change now, particularly as several people have already signed up. Plus after last week I'd rather go to the 'tried and true' again.
labadi
As a newbie to TT -havent been to one of these curry nights before.Mighty hot to be goin for a curry but lookin forward to it all the same!
Graham
just been given a doctor's appointment for 7:30am on thursday! the cheek of it! This means I ain't goin to Curry night cos I never get out of bed before 8am the next day.
pablo
10/10 for last night for the Sitar.

Service was good and friendly, food was hot and tasty, conversation was light and enjoyable and the beer was cold and plentiful !
Graham
Sitar is def. the best one we have been to on Wednesday curry night. Last week's was def. the worst. I am now happy to stay with the Sitar, although I also wouldn't say no to trying the one around Max-Weber Platz.
AquaticMeringue
We'll still try other places, but next week I definitely plan to go back to the Sitar - he said he's going to do a special chili nan!

And I suppose I should also put out a warning - some of the curries are pretty hot, so please don't be afraid to ask for advice if you're not sure what to order wink.gif
roots
Last night was good. I would also try Sangeet sometime one more time.

There must be something in the spices last night with healing powers. I was actually sick last night before I came to the restaurant with sore-throat, fever and a bit of cough. This morning I woke up like a brand new guy and feel like energizer bunny. So next time you fall sick, forget pharmacy and head straight to any curry place and order the hottest thing available and down it with a couple of weissbier. You will do just fine.
Graham
it is true. curries have healing powers. it is a proven fact. has somfing to do with the endorphines that are released when eaty spicy food.
electrobuzz
Healing powers of spices
labadi
Yeah the dishes can be spicy and hot hot hot but all the same you'll get a free desert out of it albeit a fruit based desert which isnt really a proper desert in my books.Good night though...might make a different choice of meal next time though!!
pablo
Those people who stayed on til the end (like me) got a present of a 'baby' beer, after the mango shots. They are pretty friendly in the Sitar . They also gave us lots of pompadoms (sp. ?). We were the last people to leave the resturant
AquaticMeringue
Yeah, the lack of pompadoms at Kashmir was another one of the things I didn't like so much - but Sitar'll sometimes give you extra ones, and they'll also do special dips if you ask (like a wickedly hot lime pickle).
pootle
Just had an excellent curry this evening at the Sitar. Totally confused the guy cos I wasnt there on a wednesday night. Took an english friend who had never tried the curries there and was generally disillusioned with the state of indian food in munich. He enjoyed it a lot, was very complimentary of the place. Had a great meal and really enjoyed it

Yes ofcourse. I should be the first one to know about the healing power of herbs because I deal with herbs everyday. I was curious about the particular combination of herbs and spices I devoured that night. Last time I got sick like that after a long flight, it took me 10 days to recover even with a doctor's visit and anti-biotics. It was just amazing how wonderful I felt yesterday morning-- I didn't expect that.

Next time I will surely try curry house before the doctor. smile.gif

It was nice last night but next week could we go somewhere else for a change? I am up for anything although I think Sangeet is worth a revisit.
Graham
I owuldn't mind going to Swagat at Prinzregentenplatz cos we have already been to Sangeet and was not impressed as much as Sitar.
roots
I am game for Swagat since I haven't been there. Been to Sangeet few times and I have nothing to complain. They certainly have the best decor and ambiance though.
oli2000
First off, I really enjoyed last night, also meeting new TT people smile.gif

I find Sitar OK, not more nor less. Nothing sacred about it, IMHO.

Wouldn't mind going there again though, equally wouldn't mind going somewhere else. Personal fav is Kashmir, except they apparently screw up w/ larger groups, so I guess that rules them out for TT curry nights. Sangeet indeed has the best ambiance, and food/service is fine.

But really, I don't mind and am open for anything…
Graham
seriously would like to go to Swagat, but i am also felxible and will go with the majority (or wot hwhichever restaurant AM books)
AquaticMeringue
Won't be there next week, as I've got a place reserved at the Wiesn. The week after that I've got friends visiting, so I'll almost certainly be going to the Sitar.
