I am just curious and unpatient: where are we going tomorrow for the curry?
Daisy
Nov 15 2005, 11:28 am
I have no idea. I am not allowed to decide as I have not been to at least 5 curry nights.
Looks like I will be eating nowhere tomorrow... and alone.

I haven't either, but Roots and Topsy(I think it was Topsy) went there and both reported it to be very nice. That's why I thought about it, trying out something new in the deal as well.

Have you been going on Sneaky dates with Roots?

I can assure you that I most certainly have not

No, but Topsy once mentioned it - whereupon I thought that she actually went there. But Roots took his wife there to celebrate something. I remember him saying it was very good.

I think I was trying to persuade you guys to go there one time when we had the GBV night out, so that those who wanted to could come and meet up with us afterwards. But I've personally never been, no.
I've heard it's quite good, though.

Yup, I took mrs roots to Palast der Winde for her birthday couple of weeks ago. We had a fantastic dinner. Like I said earlier, can't speak much for the interior but the service and food were great.
I have to see my dentist at 6:00 PM tomorrow so I will arrive late.

Then how about, since you are the main organizer, picking something close to your Dentits, or on the U4 line so you can get there easy. (Swagat,
Sitar, the one on Briennerstr (forget the name), Neu Dehli, Safran, Saravor)

I'm one of those people that several US government agencies claim do not exist.

In this case, I'm MSG intolerant. I'm also 32D intolerant, but that's a different story

From you curry experts, any advice on how I can avoid MSG at a curry restaurant?

Do they usually use MSG at Indian restaurant? I always thought it was a Chinese and Southeast Asian thing. Maybe the easiest solution is to simply ask at the restaurant. I'd be curious to find out myself as well.
AnthonyDoesEurope

MSG is used by
all types of restaurants.

Asking does not help because the waiters don't know what you're talking about, and often even the cooks don't know that "flavor enhancer" ("Geschmacksverstäker") is all about the MSG.

Hamburgers at the local english speaking pubs are a problem because they are pre-made with MSG already in the mix.

ok really dumb but what is MSG?
Exile
Nov 15 2005, 5:18 pm
Mono Sodium Glutinmate (sp?) - Its a flavour enhancer.
Mono Soadium Glutomate
Its a thickening agent and flavour enhancer that is used in a lot in Chinese cookery

If it's like the
original in Jaipur (hint: it's only a facade) then I would be worried as it would be a tad parky at this time of year. But foolishy I'm trusting whoever it was who suggested the place blindly on this.

AnthonyInEurope,
I know of a restaurant who makes their hamburger patties themselves and since I work in the kitchen from time to time, I can assure you there is no MSG in da haus. PM for more details.
I want to see curry pics on the gallery tomorrow morning! I can't come and play tonight. Boo! Hiss...

The Palast der Winde, This is on Hans Sachs Str 8, can someone tell me if this is the one near Sendlinger Tor. Would it be faster if I took from Sendlinger Tor the Tram (27?) to get there. If so, which stop. Sorry, I have never been there, so dont know the way.

Vishal Yes the road runs between Müllerstrasse and Jahnstrasse. I think Fraunhofer is the closest U-Bahn. I shall be taking the 18 tram myself.
Edit: the tram stop is called Müllerstrasse
