It seems I only ever go to curry nights when it's a huge crowd.
Really people, I'm not that fascinating. Just kidding, but it would be fun to have an ego that big once in a while
I'll be there early too.

it was great you guys... had a real good time

and the curry was real good as well.
we were so many I couldn't even speak with many people. like with ski for instance.. it was like 'hi ski', 'bye ski..'
but I guess that happens when you are 30something people..

Fun night, even if baby was put in a corner. Fortunately surrounded by good company, better than Patrick Swayze even. Shame about it in a way, it would have been good to meet more people. Judging by the number of people whose name started with it, this curry evening was brought to you by the letter A.

great night for my first TT event (even if it's taken me over 4 years!). good to meet so many people and now after a horrendously expensive taxi journey home i'm going to sit back and enjoy a real whisky, mmmm... 18 yr old clynelish, 16 yr old lagavulin, or 14 yr old scapa? or perhaps one of those older fantasy 'teachers' we were talking about late on, eh??
sweet dreams all.

Thank you once again for organising a lovely evening! We were so many people and everything went smoothly! Another nice evening, got to meet many people I didn't already know. Enjoyed myself lots, still just managed to get home before midnight (and turn back into a pumpkin).
Found out I missed the football game South Africa versus Germany last night!

That was my ultimate curry sacrifice, *sniff*. We lost as well.

MB So now you know, helles and curry can compete with asprin any day.
Grazzenger I hope you went for the best dram whilst you revelled in the evening's football results.
Great to meet "new people" as ever, although as Borracuda says, you just can't talk to everyone when there are that many there (although Roots had a damn good try

Memyselfi I'm glad my Polish was up to scratch...
Keema naans were just great (so okay that should be singular since I only ate one but I believe everybody who had one liked it too)
And unable to overcome my inner pig-dog I went for the chicken jalfrezi and it was rather good too (when I finally remembered to order it). Individual elements all tasty but still just hot enough to make the old forehead shine.
I can think of only six A's offhand but special thanks to one of them for curing my back problems for the evening

I've been on a few curry nights now, and the curry I had last night was the best yet (with the possible exception of
Sitar).. slightly more pricey than usual, but worth it..

I was pleasantly surprised with the food last night. I've been to Swagat before and don't remember being overwhelmed. However last nights dish was very tasty. I even forgot to demand death by chilli, so it wasn't as spicy as I'd have liked but well worth eating.
Big interesting crowd last night, I take it there were no dangling helles left at the end?

When you go with a lot of Indians and Brits to one of the better curry houses in Munich where the staff already know who's coming AND...
You're the last one to order because you got there a bit late and most of the others already ordered "English hot" AND...
You haven't had anything spicier than a French fry
("chip" for the UKians and other linguistically challenged readers) for the past five months,
Do you order:
a) Some raita and maybe a naan
B) A nice lentil dhal
c) A palak paneer and a side of fire extinguisher
d) A vindaloo
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck ogoditburns fuck fuck fuck fuckity fucking fuckwoof.
My currry tasted similar to the Sitar curries, although just like the
Sitar it was a little too salty for my liking (although Showem's curry tasted even more salty than mine). Fast and friendly service.
So we should keep Swagat on our list of good curry places to return to...

Another fantastic
curry night. Almost 40 people and it went through without a hitch. Great service, good food, fabulous company and freebies like papads, schnapps and wiskey. Best of all, NO problems with paying inspite of that many people. They simply trusted us with our slips. See, there is a reason why I talk to them in their language
It was so nice to meet so many newbies yet again. Tried to talk to as many as I could. Thank you all for yet another great evening. A++

Well Boo Hiss! Miss Bangura and myself played on the water slide at Michalibad for three solid hours, headed home to get dressed for Curry Night, however, upon seeing the long face of Jürgen who wanted watch soccer was more than I could take. I put on my apron, did not pass go, did not go to
curry night, did not make James Deveraux's art opening, I stayed home and made nachos, burritos and an order of enchiladas, but all I really wanted was a vendaloo. Boo hoo hoo...
next week? can we decide now so I can inform my partner?

No lets do new, there is this new place that has opened up in
Schwabing, forgetting the name but i do have the leaflet with me at home, so can then post the name.
spoke with Ski the other day about it and he did have nice things to say, apparantly he had ordered food from there to take-away.
That one was called India Town on Barerstrasse.
I have never actually been to the restaurant but I have ordered delivery takeaway from them.
I thought the food was nicely spiced with decent portion size and thick sauce. Hopefully this wasn't just a one-off good curry.

Sep 12 2005, 3:38 pm
Have you seen the restaurant? It is not like one of those take away/fast food type places is it?
Nope- I've never seen the restaurant either although there appears to be a picture on TT here (I don't know if the place is new or not or if they have only started advertising recently.)...
http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/india_town.htmlSo it looks like a proper restaurant from that picture at least. I can just see us all turning up and finding out it's actually a take-away place and we end up eating curry sitting on the street

why cant we go to a place where no one has eaten before

, if we stick to the tried and tested then i am missing a bit on one of the motivs of curry nite i.e try out the new places and enjoy the company.
its not like we have not had some "uninspiring" curries in some of the known places
but that said i think i may not be there this week, so ganga should be ok

Sep 13 2005, 10:31 am
Carm, is the interior for India Town (hate the name) good enough for a TT curry night?
arshoo, I am always willing to try new places and am open for suggestions. I don't know about India Town. I don't want us to go there and then find out that it is sher-e-punjab kinda place. CNs deserve nice ambiance.
We haven't been to ganga in a very long time so I am fine with it if others want it.

Unfortunately it's often the case that restaurants which are fairly good for small groups simply can't handle large (let alone huge) ones - and then the person who gave the restaurant the thumbs-up gets a verbal slating when it all goes to pot. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt (in black of course)...

India town is not a large place like Swagat, but its not super small either... if that is helpful. It had a nice decor inside, I was happy with the food, but I am not a curry expert like the rest of you.
I have also been to a few other places- Mehek (across from Ungerbad), large terrace, and big enough inside- had their lunch buffets a few times, again, not the food expert like alot of the Brits. Also Gandi- (i think that's the name) on Karl Theodorstr- just down from Schiedpl UBahn- large terrace, but the restaurant is not huge- but I was happy with the Food- Upquark knows more about this place.
Aslo been to a Sri Lanken called Kandy- very good food by my standards.
I cannot make it out this week, but next week I can if you want to try a new place next week then, and go to a regular place this week.
I go for lunch often to these places as they have an All you can eat buffet, and I have always been impressed- but again- its buffet, and I am not a curry expert. (notice trying to schuck all responsibility!)

Hey, I eat there quite often - it's relatively close to my flat. Food's definitely edible, cute female waitress working there as well!

Situated next to a petrol station, it's not that big inside - Roots, you would most like have to reserve the whole place. The weather won't allow us to sit outside.

The interior looks better on the photos than in reality. The building itself is not very nice, seventies look (but not in a nice way) and then right next to a petrol station. The food is quite edible, yet I do not consider it to be one of the best places in Munich. I go there often because it's close to my home. It is not fancy in any way, the cooking is aimed at Germans I think. They use a lot of creme. The Prince rated it as a secret tip and one of the best places in Munich. I have never had lamb or any red meat there (as I do not eat red meat) so I can't really say what that is like. The chicken is good, the vegi-stuff is good as well. The waitress is a darling, really nice young lady.
Edit: Arshoo, that is quite a babe!
Edit once again:
Here is the website of Mehek. On the photo it is a bit clearer to see that the place is not very big. Ask how many people it can take.
What was wrong with the very
MVV convenient and great tasting curry Ganga?
Sorry Roots, but my one and only
curry night was an abomination and I ain't trying any of these 'not the best place in Munich' places since, well, TT isn't exactly the world's best even AT its best.
So, I'll be at Ganga on Wednesday.
