Thank you all for being so kind.
Well, my biggest disappointment was that THEY DID NOT TRY. I would have given them credit if they really made an effort but it was clear to me that they didn't as soon as I walked into the kitchen. Instead they took an easy route. I went there 4-5 times last week, gave them print-outs of recipes, sat with them and explained in length the cooking process, ingredients involved just so they understood the importance of what I am trying to have them make for us. He spoke some big words but in the end it was all empty talk. And yes, where the hell was salad?
The only positive thing last night was the service was good and of course great company as always.
Well, I will make him realize our disappointment. I wouldn't like to give them our business for a while. If and when we go back again, they better make up for the missing salad in the form of a beer or a discount because what we paid last night was way too much for what we got. Ram should know better than that.
So next week to Roots Authentic Indian Restaurant in
Schwabing then?

Roots man, no worries. These things happen. You took the pains to organize it and everyone is grateful for that.
However, you are right. We should take our business elsewhere. I suggest doing
Ganesha again sometime

hey do not feel too bad I am sure everyone appreciates the fact that you put a lot of effort into the evening and that simply you were let down by the restaurant. Boycotting the restaurant is a good idea, and to be honest I do not think I will ever bother going back there if there is another
curry night there.
We send thirty odd customers there, and we are paying a premium to get plenty of meat, and there was hardly any. I also think the keema nans there are very unimpressive.
I am sending you some Karma and hopefully you will feel better

So what should I demand from IPJ before she gets her purse back?
Remember, she is a girl and I am a guy and right now I am in control.

Review:
Roots-awesome job putting this together and trying.
Service-great actually relatively speaking.
Food-good, but we paid for great, got no salad and it dissappointed Roots.
Company-great as always and made even better by my wife joining us!
Still, all in all, I don't think anyone left hungry and my wife even chowed down three plates full so if "real" biryani is nirvana, I am not sure we are worthy of that.

Was it at Tandoori? Is my €20 still in it?

To be honest, I've never had a bad curry at the Tandori when I've going with a small group, if you will keep going to the large curry nights, I'm not sure what your expectations are...
Roots - I saw you in the Tandori the night before you posted about the Biryani evening, I guess you were in there to organise stuff. We had great food that night, everone in my group was very happy

Poots, I am guessing you are one of the 4-5 guys sitting by the window couple of tables down to my right. We never really met in person so sorry if I didn't recognize you.
You know I was there well over an hour talking to the guys and cooks and that was only the first time. Now you know why I was so disappointed with last night.

@Pootle
I've been to the Tandoori in large groups and also tables for two and on all occasions my food has always tasted the same (which is good incidently). It just sounds like they screwed up the Biryani night. I don't really care for Biryani so that's why I gave last night a miss.

KM, totally agree with you. Last night was supposed to be different and it wasn't. No need to discuss it any further I guess.
So where to next week? Something totally new or tried and tested?
Think we should do a menu next week? Like 2 chicken or 1 chicken and 1 lamb. If we finalize the restaurant I am more than happy to negotiage with the restaurant.
I am open to all options.
How about Surahi for next week as long as they promise to bring the food out in waves rather than waiting as long as last time for everything to come out at once?
Kebab Meister
Jun 2 2005, 4:54 pm
I won't complain about the Surahi since it's my favourite BUT is there someone pretty central that we haven't tried yet?
If it's new I got to try their Chicken Vindaloo!!! (can't go to the Surahi without having that!!)

Swagat but have never been there - has there ever been a

Dont really mind where the next one is, but the menu idea sounds good.

I haven't been to a
curry night there but a few of us went there last Christmas Eve. Food was pretty good but I'd have reservations on going there next week. It's in a cellar so maybe not so well fitted for a visit in June when we've taken to going outside for a spot of fresh air a lot in the last few weeks. Plus it's a bit romanticky for us lot. Just my 2c. Open to correction on this opinion.

Sangam in schwabing?
It is central and I don't think there was ever a

Jun 2 2005, 9:39 pm
ok then
Tamanrind seems like a place we could try.
Its in Marineplatz.
Edit: Forget Tamarind. Just read reviews and they don't look good. I just picked it because of location.

Go to
Sarovar (or their
own website). It's central, it's big enough to handle a crowd and very friendly service. The guy who runs the place goes out of his way to say hello to me, even if I'm walking on the other side of the street, he'll spot me and wave hello.

Showem is just trying to bring back her happy memories cuz thats where she met me the first time
Ok, haven't been to Sarovar since the last
curry night there last year and I honestly forgot what I had and how it was (may be it was the excitement of being around Showem

Wherever we end up, I second the VINDALOO vote. We all need to get into training for the chili competition... nothing like a good vindaloo to get the blood boiling.

ooohh, I am doing the chili competition, too. Need inspiration so a vindaloo (not english hot for me, tho) would be just the ticket. Don't know if I can make the next

Although if nobody knows them it might make the idea of a set menu more difficult.

I'd like to go to a buffet night *but* am away next week (next Weds I'll be at the Dinosaur Jr concert in London yaaaay).
roots
Jun 3 2005, 8:37 am
If it is surahi then I could talk to them about buffet.
oli2000
Jun 3 2005, 8:44 am
Buffet at Surahi seems a nice idea since curry nights now have a magnitude of some 30+ TTers. But of course they'd need to have a sufficient variety of dishes, perhaps also including starters and salad, otherwise it'd be too boring.

There is a new place on the corner of Nymphenbugerstrasse and Landshuter called of all things Taj Mahal. Anyone know if it is any good? It has a nice outside table area!
There is also a place just south of
Muenchener Freiheit heading west that has a beirgarten. Tah Najan or something like that. Has anyone been there?

the outside seating area is actually pretty big

I don't think Taj Mahal is new. It's been there as long as I can remember. Never eaten there though so this post is pretty pointless

Jun 5 2005, 7:51 am
you must be getting memory loss, then, cos it's been there less than a year
it used to be chinese place, before that it was an internet cafe
Showem
Jun 5 2005, 9:59 am
It was also a Mexican place too, sometime after the internet cafe. That place changed hands so quickly in the last couple of years I wonder about it. But that's not to say the food would be poor, I've never eaten there since it's been a curry house.

Speaking of what used to be what , here is another nugget.
Ganesha (previously Namaskar) was first owned by Ram (owner of Tandoori and New Delhi) back in 1993. He then sold Namaskar after 3 years and opened New Delhi.
