I don't mind as long as you don't mind me bringing my Russian/Ukrainian friends.

Nope not at all. Germans, Russians and Ukranians are people too and they have the same feelings and cravings as you and I
Give them a hearty Spaseeba for joining us.

I am up for it. Biryani tastes great when you are bit drunk. I like to have at least 2 beers before the stuff arrives.

Always the same question. Always someone different who asks it

So what o'clock?
roots
Jun 1 2005, 10:28 am
I could be there at 6:30.
Biryani will be served at 8:00 PM by the way.

Well, I believe the event officially kicks off at 7:30pm. Being that we'll be set w/ Biryani around 8pm, I could be there for pre-drinks around 6:30.
Sounds good. I could even be there earlier if anyone else will be going there straight from work

Got to pick up my car late this afternoon and the timing of that is not dependent on me. So any time between 6 and 7:30.
Treehugger do it the easy way, just don't eat any lunch.

Jun 1 2005, 11:27 am
Not sure about when I'll arrive either. The timing is dependent on those coming with me and whether or not we will all be travelling together.

Apologies but have to miss your biryani
Wont get out of office in time
Hope it is as good as it sounds!
I'm going to wander over around 7, so if you see a new face looking lost and/or thirsty...

I've got to pick my computer up from the shop, so I'll probably be there a bit early for drinks (between 6:30 and 7, I'd say). My 2 guests will probably be there around 7:30.

I am leaving now. This could very well be my last post ever. Watch out for headline on Toytown Post tomorrow "Toytowner killed by other Toytowners for bad biryani. Naked body found with bad doggie bites all over"
It was good to know you all.

10/10 to roots for the effort he put into organizing this, 2/10 to Tandoori for using this event to simply make a quick buck.
Good job Roots! Where are we off to next week?

Jun 1 2005, 10:23 pm
Yes, I agree. 10/10 to Roots
2/10 for fatty, unboned Biryani

i guess the next time we get to eat the real hyderabadi briyani is either in roots restaurant or mine... i'm fed up with the "authentic" dishes these restaurants make here...

You deserve a lot of applause for the effort that you put in roots... but i guess tandoori wont be seeing me for a long time i guess...

At our table, we were having a boner contest. I think the wife won, but Bad Doggie may have other thoughts, but what do you expect with a female brain.

Tandoori -- banned
New Delhi -- bannedThey won't see a penny from TT for a while and they deserve it.
We didn't get what we wanted and I feel cheated. I am angry and disappointed. I apologize to everybody who came tonight cuz I feel personally responsible. There was only so much I could do when I am not in the kitchen. I wish I took over the kitchen and did the cooking. Those North Indian fcukers just don't know what Biryani is.
As promised I give you my naked body. Feel free to PM me if you wanna do anything with it.
Next time you have biryani, it is gonna be in
my restaurant.
Once again I am sorry.
Just give me bad karma and I will stay in my hole for a while.
PS: I hope IPJ got home OK cuz her wallet was missing.

Jun 2 2005, 6:34 am
oh dear - was it really that bad, then?
what was wrong with it exactly?
I wouldnt say it was bad exactly, just nothing special. I cant really comment on authenticity but it had less flavour, less meat, and worse meat than last years biryani. If last night was my first biryani I would wonder what the big deal was, it was an average indian resturant meal. Nice sauces, but something was missing. Maybe coriander or mint or something, I dunno. Roots shouldnt take it personally, he went to a lot of effort explaining how it should be done, the restaurant should though, I think they saw us as a mere money source from the start. I would give it a 5/10, if last years was a 9.

Bad, bad, evil karma for Tandori

cos the meat was scarce but when you did get a lump it was fatty and with bones.

The flavour of the sauces and rice was nice but Roots said it wasn't authentic. I wouldn't know but my gripe was the meat

Shame about the restaurant last night...I think you guys have the right idea to boycott it

Hope you find it - did it have much in it? Did it contain your whole life or was it a going outy-type purse with just the cash for that night? I suppose you have already asked the waiters etc..? Good luck

Roots I guess you know that none of us would associate the quality of the food last night with you personally. Get down there, get them to give you a few free whiskies and then report back
Thank you for organising. This was not your "ordinary"
curry night.
I'm with Kza on this one. It was nothing special, but then restaurant biryanis never seem to be anything special (I missed the one last year). It was nice, harmless food. Heaven knows I ate enough of it...
Plus I had an excellent evening. It was certainly a long evening. If I didn't exactly meet the meat I did meet a few "newbies" which is always good. And heck, even someone from Perth who held out to the bitter end!
Anyone know what happened to the salad?

I thought "Mediocre! was a colour...
Thanks for organising it Roots! It was still good to try something different.
I think if they had just used better meat with no bones I would have liked it much better. Still never had Biryani before so I've nothing to compare it to.
Roots, thanks so much for organizing this! I'm sorry you were so disappointed. But, as someone who had never tasted Biryani before, and wouldn't know the difference between authentic and non-authentic, I still enjoyed it. And as always I had a great time with everyone. Thanks again!

p.s. - I think you really should consider opening your own restaurant!!!
