Let's put the world to rights first:
QUOTE
one white guy is jml
Well the two white guys were Kebab Meister and me. I wonder which one was JML
The only (mildly negative) issue I have from last night was the wait for the mains. (Kza cheated by disappearing for the best part of an hour to rob a bank or something. Good tactics as it happened)
The starters (time to found OBA!) came punctually but then those of us who were there "on time" did wait for about 2 hours for the main course because they insisted on bringing them all at once. I was hungry dammit. But quite right, it was a good time chatting too and getting to know a couple of "new faces". Good for the restaurant too, as they managed to sell more drinks in the interlude.
I had a good evening and couldn't believe how late it was when we finally left. That's a good sign.
Food was nowhere near as hot as last time but then I didn't ask for it that hot. Quality and quantity were not up there with Deeba or New Delhi or Shiva but nobody heard me complaining.
The main thing about last night is that there was a great atmosphere and it was actually fun to be such a large group.
Was definately a great
curry night especially cause I met so many new people
@showem bug is perfectly fine with me
Great seeing everyone, especially some new faces!
Well the food was nice even though it was nothing like I ordered (I ordered chicken but I got lamb with perhaps a few prawns in there as well). I think about 4 people got different things from what they ordered.
Anyway since it tasted nice I'd go back again and hopefully I'll get something closer to what I ordered next time.

I have to say that last night was the best
curry night I've been to this year. I think getting there really early for drinks was great... hic... and the company was simply great! I don't think I've laughed so much for a long time! Quite a few new faces too!
As for the food, it wasn't as hot as last time but that wasn't a bad thing because my Chicken Vindaloo was absolutely perfect! Exactly the right level of heat and taste!
It was a good place to be for 5 or 6 hours!

(do I have a hangover tho!!)
Oh, Roots even struggled with the hotness of his dish... photo proof to follow!!

@Ski - I think you got quarblotz's dish, and she got yours!

Well, we accidentally paid for an extra beer, so that was one less for you to pay at the end of the night.

agree with KM and the others the curry was real fun last nite and boy MAM i did wimp out of joining the other "interesting" curry next to our table

good food, was hot but not as last time but it was TASTY! so rite mix of spices
hope the tandoori lives upto its billing and we have another fab curry!

Ski: Have you ever got what you ordered yet? It seems to me that the Indian waiter fraternity has it in for you.
KM: Yeah that picture of Roots struggling with his curry. Of all people.
And when you say it was your best
curry night this year... Weren't all your TT curry nights this year?

I had a great time. The food was great, the beer glass was always full. Great company! Thanx all!

The curry was great. I shared 3 veggie dishes with Arshoo and MAM. They weren't as hot as last time (I didn't turn into my alter-ego Whinegirl). I didn't have to order yoghurt. But it was an appropiate, enjoyable level of heat. I think Surahi did well with dealing with such a big group, it's never easy for any place. They brought our food out all at the same time which is why it took an hour from orderring. The waiter was really friendly. The food was not as good as Neu Dehli or Shiva but better than the night we went to Tandoori (but I've heard others say that was a bad night for them).
Great meeting all the Newbies!!!

How could I forget a mention for the waiter. 10 / 10 for him, great performance from start to finish.
It was only my second visit to the restaurant but he remembered me from the first time. I wonder why that should be

I was there at 5.30 to meet up wit Roots. You all owe him a smiley for setting the place straight.
While waiting for roots, I mentioned the big group and they were instantly confused and claimed to have no confirmed reservation. He said something about 13 and when I countered with 40 I thought he was going to pee his pants.
The guy was telling me to call the guy who made the reservation. I tried but oddly enough deutsche telekom had no listing for mad axe murderer.
Anyhoo roots showed up, the right waiter showed up and everything was straightened out. They definitely were not prepared for the group but they busted themselves to get the place rearranged. I would definitely recommend showing up early for drinks when the crowd gets that large to make sure it all goes well.
ps: I had a samosa appetizer btw which was delicious.

That was a great night we had. Fantastic atmosphere. The best thing about last night was most of us moved around the tables and were able to talk to almost everybody. We should do that more often so that we get to know newbies.
My Kadai chicken was HHHOOOOTT and I can still feel it in places I dont wanna describe. The waiters did a very commendable job considering the size of the crowd. In the end there were a few beers left unpaid. The guy didn't make a big deal but some of us covered it anyway. KB's slips seem like working very well so I think we should keep it going from now on to minimize confusion.
Overall, I absolutely enjoyed it (I spent 7 hours in there damit). I go to curry nights to meet new people and have a good time and that is what I got. With last night, Surahi's stock went up. Definitely a place we will go back to.
Enjoyed meeting all the newbies.

Still thinking about the good lovers threads.
I was disappointed, I mean you order a chicken vindaloo english, and you have to use Mango lattes to make it hotter, I mean honestly.
It was a great night and I thank all of you for making my new conversation partner feel welcome, perhaps she will join the website and come to events in her own right as well as with me. I onle had two keema nans as I did not want her to think I am a greedy pig.
Comment was made about my frequent visits to the toilet, well I just don't like to feel uncomfortable when eating. I will spare you all the details of today's toilet visit rate.
Well done to the restaurant for an excellent job.

May 17 2005, 11:20 am
Since there will be a lot of people at the curry again this week, I think this week we should ask them not to wait until everyone's dinner is ready before they bring it out, since it took ages to get dinner at the Surahi last week.

May 17 2005, 11:22 am
Ski: agreed.
Ashu: discussions on this week were held a while back. Tandoori it is, no ifs nor ors.

I talked to the guy on sunday about making this a special All-you-can-eat event with 2 chicken, 2 lamb items, naan, rice and salad. We even finalized the items. Was gonna post the details and take a poll but now it is too late so it is gonna be a regular curry event. Everybody orders what they want.

If you want to get served I'd say do what a few of us did last week and turn up 90 minutes early and order starters. But if I said that then everyone would do that and that would kind of defeat the point
I think we should try what Ski said and see if they will take orders from subgroups...

Look for the group that occupies 95% of the restaurant

Lindsay and all newbies. We won't be hard to find in the restaurant. You will wlak thru the door and immediately see a large group of rowdy english speakers. If not, then Ram has hidden us in a back room, so ask the waiters for the Toytown group.
Jeeves
May 17 2005, 3:30 pm
Linsey: check out Kebab Meister's pics from last week (see post at top for link). He has added some names for ease of identification...
Edit: frequently when booking a table the booker will post here what name (s)he has booked under (if not "Toytown"). However when the group exceeds about 10 people then that generally becomes unnecessary, for reasons which Owain has outlined above.

Not sure if I can make 5:30 again though, or whatever time it was when I got there?!
Any takers for 6pm? 6:30pm? Early drinks?
Any decision on buffet or shall we do that another week and let people know in advance?
