Oh the joys of student freedom, spend what you don't have and worry about it later...
Yep, that's about it. Debt payment starts next year. I've given up the concept of paying some off while I'm still a student; at this point, it's just a matter of keeping it even and not increasing. I wouldn't exactly call it freedom, though...

Why not make a separate bill for each person, and make sure that whoever leave clears with the waiter first.. (Yes it can be a PITA but it works) I am NOT going to be paying for other people in any way shape or form..
I am also not going to be charged for stuff I didn't order. Some of these
places keep bring out stuf like Papadumps and such without people asking them to then expect us to pay for it.. BULL If it wasn't orderd DON'T Bring it!!! And if it is ordered, the person who ordered it is responsible for paying.. . end of discussion

So who should?? Grinner?
I'm not saying we should pay for freeloaders, just that when someone fails to remember what they had, we should be responsible as a group for it...
Otherwise, the restaurant might not have us back, and if we do it every week, KM's search for new Indian places to eat will be all the more crucial.

Hince the point of separate bill for each person...
If something is missed of the bill then it's the waiters fault for forgetting to add to to that persons bill.
If the restaurant employees stupid people who forget to make sure they get peoples bills correct, it's not our problem, and maybe we shouldn't be going there to begin with..
Side Note: at the last 2 CN's I went to the waiter tried to stick me with stuff I didn't order.
IF I ORDER IT, THEN I PAY FOR IT... Don't put stuff on the tabel without being asked and expect people to pay for it at the end of the night, just because the waiter put it there...

I didn't go to the chilli challenge but I can understand why you're pissed off! €80?! That's obscene and totally unacceptable.
I'm going to keep tabs for everything I order in future, whether it be on the beer mat or a bit of paper or whatever (I may bring some paper along to try and encourage people to use it and try and stop the madness of not paying). I suggest everyone does the same.
Luckily at most curry nights I'm about the only one who has dunkel weißbier so my beer is often easy to work out from the receipt.
@KT
Yeah it must be your fault, you and your biryani!!

Seriously don't let this put you off coming.
Arrrgh. Me wants curry. Me wants curry. But just started my German language lessons and all my Wednesdays are taken up!!!

I'm against everyone putting 20 in at the beginning. I don't normally drink on curry nights, it's just my night off. I also eat vegetarian, just preference. My bill is normally about 13. Like IPJ I'm a student but I like going out with y'all. This is how I afford it.
I wasn't at the night in question but 80 extra for Grinner to pay is totally unacceptable.
I think everyone should mark their beer mat whether the waiter does it or not. I'm not going to throw in for unpaid beers when I'm not even drinking. And no one should leave till all is paid. The left over food at Surahi was ordered by someone who left before the bill was settled. I don't think it was intentional.

i agree with winegirl but every diner i have gone to with a big group we managed to get our bills sorted out individually i cant imagine why this is a problem. I hope its not the indian waiters who make an arse of themselves.

Well I've done a little slip that people can mark what they've had. We'll give it a trial tonight, like it or lump it.
As for staying until everyone has paid. I'm sorry but I can't always do that. Occasionally people are out for a session and I can't stay because I got trains to catch and then have to be up early for work. The only suggestion is that someone agrees that the person leaving has paid for what they've ordered.

Apr 6 2005, 9:03 am
How about as soon as the first person leaves, we settle for whatever has been ordered up until that point? This would prompt a few people to take off- settling the bill seems to have that effect on people- but at least most of the bill would be taken care of while everyone is still there, people can stick around and eat/drink more, but the largest part of the bill will get settled while everyone is still there. And if they try to stick the last four people with extra orders of naan or papadams or whatever, we can fairly say to the waiter that it should have been taken care of earlier.

I'm gonna meet Grinner at the Sitar 'cos he is clearly an easy touch for free beers when no-one is watching
I agree with Darknight. This is really the best way to solve the problem which I did not even know existed - well I am still a bit of a newbie

. But this does make the whole evening a bit unpleasant if people feel like they have to pay extra for something they never had or wanted. Separte bills is the best way. And if we dont order something it should not be brought out!
Yeah let's try @KM's curry slips tonight and see how that goes.
I guess it's mainly the beers that people might forget.
I'm normally happy just splitting bills but I guess since there's such a variety in what people order I think either slips, individual bills or beer mats is a good idea, at least for the times when we have a large group.

I would like to come tonight for the first time ever to show that I exist.
Questions:
1. Is it at Sitar in

2. Are many going to go tonight seeing as it is a big Bayern Chelsea game on the telly?

2. Can't answer that one...not me, anyway.

Jeremy - you have a choice - the old-gits-nearly-pushing-40-club is at the Sitar as you can see. We will be discussing stimulating topics such as "I remember when beer was 50p a pint" and "I'd still give Debbie Harry one if she walked in now".
Tricky choice I know. Young and interesting or old and bitter.
p.s. I reckon we should organise a "curry" night in London. Fly in, curry and fly home.

Brilliant idea !!!
Why don't we tell the waiter at the start of the night that everybody is paying idividually.
At the Surahi I was surprised when he just placed one big bill on the table.
In the other resteraunts the waiters have automatically split the bills, but being a boring old bastard who would give Debby Harry one, I tend to not be the last to leave. So I've never observed Grinner's generosity.
At the Sitar I've certainly discussed whether it was 3 or 4 helles.

Well the Goa was okay but around average. However, they did do free poppadoms with LIME PICKLE (!!!) which is the first place I've seen do it in Münich. They also did the nicest onion bhaji I've had in Münich too (although it looked like a super douper hamburger shaped bhaji!). The curry was a bit disappointing and three of us sent them back to be made hotter but it still wasn't spicy enough.
Also they apologised for taking so long to serve the main course (maybe because of late arrivals?) and so they didn't charge for the nan breads (whichever you had - I had keema nan). Andrew got two free keema nans didn't you?
Anyway, good to try somewhere new but no rush to go back just yet.
