I agree with Grinner. The service was very slow at the beginning. We waited 3/4 just for the starters. After they arrived, though, things did speed up a little.

Complaints:
Kashmir - crap service - i complained as well
Neu Dehli - Mausgate - i saw the mouse as well and as was sorted after the ownerr sorted the problem.
Grinner did not complain to the restaurant about the service nor did he make a fuss. It was simply a comment on this thread.

I thought the food was good, except for that ridiculous dismembered skeleton of an onion baji. Service-wise, when we got there, the place was heaving. When we left, it certainly wasn't. I thought the service was okay initially and then tailed off -- we were waiting a fair old while for the bill -- which doesn't make sense to me. The table was in a bit of a resteraunt backwater - I got the impression they just forgot about us.
That bar was very nice though, esp. with the entire female 20-something population of Ismaning in attendance!

Actually, the Neu Delhi complaint I was referring to was returning a meal, because it wasn't hot enough and then it was too hot, or something like that. At any rate, he didn't even want to complain at New Delhi and was very good about it. They insisted to correct the food for him. My point was not that he's a complainer - I certainly don't think that's the case - just that I think he's a bit pickier than average.

Ok, folks, let me just clarify. I said above that his complaints were fair. I don't think he's a whiner and no, he didn't make a big fuss. I was not trying to be accusative at all here. Maybe I've just been poor so long that I'm used to eating in places where I can't expect good service or food and so any nice meal is a pleasant surprise. I don't know. But in my experience the service last night at Rama was no different than the service I've gotten in any other restaurant in Munich.

So, where to this week? (6th April)
Can we go to one of these please? I'm rather keen to try Indian restaurants that we haven't been to this year.
Sangeet - Briennerstrasse 10, City Center
Rama - ArnulfStrasse 114, Central
Goa - Thierschstrasse 8, Lehel
A few people have expressed that they'd like to try the Rama on Arnulfstr. How about that?

Info! Not a curry eater myself but just noticed on the way into work today that the excellent (although not well frequented - hence closing down??!) Thai restaurant nearby(Morassistr. - near Isartor) will shortly be reopening as an Indian/Pakistani restaurant (Shalimar - remember the pop group?!!! - maybe it means something in Hindi?)

Well, the hottest so far in Münich has to be

I'd definitely like to go back to the Surahi sometime, perhaps when others that haven't experienced this place go!

I take it that the Goa is at the Isartor end of Thierschstr.?

As KT says, lets hope its not going to be a "let grinner" pick up the tab situation..
I would like to suggest that we all put 20€ in a hat, to start with and then see what happens..
I realise that some may only have a beer and a main course, but I am getting cheesed of with picking up the tab after everyone claims they have paid..
See ya there..

Not that I ever go for curry...unless dragged but I have asked Tom about this before and he claims that at a curry it is just customary to split the tab amongst the partakers.
I find this so strange since one of my favourite things about Munich is the ability to pay seperately at a meal...especially as you say some eat/drink more than others. I love when they ask 'Zusammen oder getrennt?'

Trust me, as a student I'll be counting every penny. Sorry Grinner, but I can't do the "toss the money in" thing, since I'll be putting this on the credit card.
@Blimeygirl - I think it's normal to just split the bill when you do it potluck style and everyone shares all the dishes, but I haven't known anybody to do it otherwise.

I never realised it was a problem with people not paying. Perhaps in future we should all write down exactly everything we're drinking/eating as we progress through the night. It might be a nuisance but at least it will stop people 'forgetting' what they've had and some poor soul having to foot the bill.
How many times has it happened this year? I've only experienced it at the Surahi and the one in Sendlinger Tor; both times the restaurant wrote those items off.
Will you rejoin or you meeting French bloke?

Apr 5 2005, 8:29 pm
at the Xmas eve curry I ended up paying a remaining ten Euros. IW said I should not have done, with hindsight I wonder if he suspected that the restaurant was taking the piss, or if someone did forget to pay everything.
MadAxeMurderer
Apr 5 2005, 10:23 pm
At the Surahi I wanted to make sure there were no bill item orphans cos I'd organised it, and knew the waiter well. He wanted to charge us all for poppadums, thend reduced it to three, and when I came to pay 2 had already been paid. So I just paid up the last.
I wasn't aware that Grinner ended up making up the difference, and thats completely unacepptable. Divide the bill by X doesn't work either. Some people have a starter, expensive thning from the menu, naan, and 5 beers, others have one drink, and a cheap main course. The heavy consumers might pay twice as much as the lighter.
What we could do is divide the difference after everybody has supposedly paid. And play big brother on our neighbours re drinking. I guess drinks are the problem, its easier to think you only had 4 helles instead of 6, than forgetting the naan or the starter.
This is a serious problem. I mean so far we've only lost Grinner, but even that is a loss.

Oh the joys of student freedom, spend what you don't have and worry about it later...
I have to say i think MAM's post was spot on, each pay up for what they had (think they had) and split the diff equally between everyone. We could even combine this with KM's idea of marking off what we've had as we go along and then split the diff at the end for when people have forgotten to put a mark on the beer mat.
Hmm, we are getting very German aren't we??
I just want to avoid the need for Grinner stepping up €80 for no reason and no appreciation... why the hell should he?
Clearly we aren't mature enough to pay for what we've had (generally speaking) so if we have to German then we shall.
btw, MAM, i paid one of those popadoms cos i asked the waiter specifically if they were free or not, and he said they weren't on the bill but we were paying for them.
If only everyone could be as honest

Oh, i had 6 beers and only paid 3 though.
wink wink, chuckle.
