Where to this week then eh?
We can't have done all the Indian restaurants in Munich already...

Prince India and Nirvana. Both just north of Kurfurstenplatz. Nirvana has a very cool, but non-curry house atmosphere. Can get water pipes there too.

On saturday evening, just after Wales won the Grand Slam and Scotland capitulated to the auld enemy i had one of my best ever curry experiences in Munich.
We all went down to Deeba, the Pakistani restaurant, just round the corner from the Arc. I ordered Chicken Balti. No explanation was asked for, none given (normally they stare at you blankly here in Munich).
Well, the dish i was served LOOKED like a Balti (first time ever in Munich), smelled like a Balti (also first time in Munich) and even tasted like a Balti.
I would like to repeat this experience so i can confirm it was not part of the euphoria caused by Wales winning the Grand Slam.

It's only 3 weeks since TTC went there, but personally I have no objections at all. The curry on Saturday was GOOD. I just thought that somebody might like to try somewhere different.

I don't care where we go but can we start at 8? I was talking to French Bloke after the above mention game and he was talking about coming. Of course 7:30 would be too early because of the german classes.

I’d like to suggest the Surahi, Hohenzollernplatz 8. I go there quite often for lunch and now one the waiters knows me, he makes sure my curry is properly curried.
U2, trams 12, 27, and bus 53 all go there.
Grinner
Mar 21 2005, 7:49 pm
Sounds good to me...
Are you going to organise it? (thats if we get approval)
roots
Mar 21 2005, 7:51 pm
MAM, my opinion of Surahi is kinda low cuz when I went there, our food was very bad--may be we just got unlucky. Plus I did not like the way the restaurant is. Three or four rooms one after the other do not give me a nice restaurant feeling. Just wanted to add my opinion thats all.

I'd like to put in a vote for this Balti place. I've never had a true Balti, and I'd really like to try one.
MadAxeMurderer
Mar 21 2005, 8:55 pm
If the central comitee for the maintance of curry standards approves Surahi, then I will organise it. The food there used to be very variable, but now I'm known its consitently good. Its also the closest to my flat.
However now I'm scared cos I don't want to be responsbile for low class curry. And they do NOT do proper onion bahjis.
Footnote. in the future is we are going to a place (like the Shiva) that does proper onion bahjis instead of German onion rings could somebody please annouce it. I wanted to kill Grinner when four plates of nice looking bahjees turned up, and I had ordered none because I assumed they were the wrong sort. Well the menu even said onion rings.

Sorry, my vote's still for Graham's place. If it's not there, then I guess I don't care, since I haven't even been to half of the places
curry night has been yet, anyway.

According to the
review on Toytown, India Town does proper onion Bahjis.
Although be careful, I know of one place that used to do "proper" ones, but stopped since most of the customers didn't like them.

Yes it did, which is also why I didn't order any. Now we know.
I'm not bothered about where it is tomorrow as I'm not even sure I'll be there yet. But I see no reason not to try somewhere different. MAM has voiced his opinion on the whatever-it-was-called-but-because-I'm-not-using-the-fast-reply-I-can't-see-his-post-now and so has Roots. We are big boys and girls and if we went there (or anywhere) and it turned out well we'd say thanks for the suggestion and if it turned out bad we'd just run away and cry, so no harm done.

Where is this Sahari place and are there any other good reviews? I don't mean to be so picky, but on my student budget I only have so many outings each month and I'd kinda rather not spend it on average food.

Whoever fixed the registration page must have taken the trouble to read the thread and register all of us.
Getting to Surahi
U2 direction Feldmoching, or trams 12, and 27, or bus 53 (used to be bus 33) getting of at Hohenzollernplatz. The Surahi is literally 30m from the tram/bus stop.
If you take the U2 from the centre of town walk back the opposite direction of train, taking the Hohenzollernstr/Nordbad exits which brings you out exactly at the bus/tram stop.
Surahi phone number is 31568137

Holy shit! That has to be the hottest vindaloo I have had in a very long, long time! It gave me the hiccups... my eyes were watering... even the nan bread seemed hot! It was probably the second hottest I've ever had!
Jeeves' voice changed after a couple of mouthfuls of curry (he even had to go outside for a quick smoke - the first in... 7 years?)... Winegirl was getting redder by the moment and almost crying and no it wasn't her missing Grinner... I think everyone struggled apart from Kingstown 'cos he went for a pansy mild biryani (sp?)!

Though he did splutter on a mouthful of vindaloo!
I hope tomorrow isn't a new definition of Lord of the Rings! eeep!
I'm going to go and have a Cadbury's Creme Egg!
