There were 11 of us. Surely not that large a group to make a difference to the quality of the food.
But certainly a nice size for meeting new people

Perhaps they were getting rid off the left overs. I ordered Kadai Chicken but I got something else. The food was neither terrible nor fantastic. Jusk OK.

Yeah, I was disappointed with the actual food but the service surely made up for it. My vindaloo didn't have any potatoes in it at all and apart from about 4 chunks of chicken was mostly sauce.
The company was fantastic though!

@edwin - it's a good job I woke you up at St. Martin's Str. eh?

@roots - the free prosecco surely was appreciated!

You know what the finely-honed palate of the Brit male is like when it comes to curry, they *are* very picky...
The food was certainly good enough to get woofed down sharpish without any major complaints.
The service was excellent, the company was excellent, and the food wasn't bad either. I'd go back (but then it is not far from my house...)

Its not a place I would like to go again soon. The chicken was boiled and chucked into a sauce that lacked depth.
The owner asked me how it was. I just looked at him and he knew exactly what I thought of the food. The restaurant was run by Sikh and I am a Hindu Punjabi, so I know the sort of food you should get from a North Indian Restaurant.
The guy was very nice and always had a smile though.

Didn't say the food was lousy. It was just a bit insubstantial and not quite what I was expecting. Tasted good though.

I don't think it was so lousy that one should never go back. Sometimes food is not great even in restaurants you frequent often. I like New Delhi but the last time I was there I wasn't thrilled with what I got but I would still go there again.

It also depends on who the cook is.
Each cook has there own authentic stamp.

I went to the pakistani curry place near
The Arc and I thought the food was very good.
@satman, where were you

Damn, seems I missed out on a good night. My antics from Tuesday really wiped me out for yesterday... (lightweight I know!)
Interested to read your comments about the food. I used to go there all the time a few years back, and it used to be very good... shame its gone downhill.
The service is good though, and a friend of mine gave the guy with the turban and a huge grin the nickname 'Cheesy Uncle'... hmmm...

All this talk about curry is making me hungry! I'm going to miss the next 2 weeks but I'll be in London so I'll have to have some good curry. So any advice how hot I should ask for it. I always ask for very hot here and am usually disappointed with the lack thereof. The one exception being Neu Dehli, they gave me almost too hot for me. It was really good. Also suggestions about particular places are welcom too.
I enjoyed meeting you all yesterday! Liked the restaurant too, though admittedly my lentil dish was not such a hit (better than the one I tried to make at home though). Roots' chicken was great if you ask me. And the staff at Maharaja are very nice, I would definitely go back there.

It's a toughy! I lived near Leicester and my local Indian dishes were very hot with a Madras being hotter than the typical Vindaloo (he commuted from Birmingham every day). Having said that I have had Vindaloo's in both London and Birmingham and it depends on the restaurant; some are very hot and some are medium.
I guess it's best to ask them how hot they normally are then decide from there! I still say that you should ask for hot (and maybe very hot if you're brave!)

Where in London are you going?
Try this link, it has hundreds of Indian restaurants divided into districts of London

Most Indian restaurant menus display how hot the dish is next to them. i.e. Vindaloo = hot, Madras = medium hot, Jalfrezi = medium etc. These are normally displayed against most of the spicy dishes and I find it helps to at least identify which are the hotter dishes. You can then ask for more info about your choice of dish and they'll always change it to your taste as well.

Hey, I had a really cool night too - enjoyed meeting some new TT peeps I hadn't met before. I was starving last night, hadn't eaten a curry since I've been in Germany so my meal went down very well to be honest! Hope to see you all again next week.

I do wanna give you guys an update on Sangeet in case any one made the suggestion.
This place has gone downhill since it first started. Last two times food was terrible. Was there last friday. We ordered 10 different items with lamb and chicken. Not one was worth mentioning. When even germans tell you that the curries were bland then you know there is a problem. We also had 5 kinds of desserts and I tell you they were a disgrace to our desserts. I am not sure what the problem is but the standards have really sunk with Sangeet. The only good thing is they still treat me like royalty whenever I go there and it has a good interior but hey, I still want my food tasty.

No Offence - but the restaurants will only produce the level of quality the customer demands. I went to the Kashmir Indian and it was shite. It was catered for the Germans who seem to appreciate the taste. They dont realised they are getting ripped off.
Curry places in the UK are generally better because the competition is higher and also there are shit loads of asians there they cater for too.
